Overview

The Lung Bus Driver & Operations Support Coordinator plays an essential role in supporting the success of First Health’s mobile lung health program, the First Health Lung Bus. This position is responsible for safely driving, operating, and maintaining the Lung Bus, assisting with event setup and logistics, and providing general support for the Lung Bus team. In addition, this role provides operational support to the Strategy & Innovation team for events, acquisitions, and other department projects.

This position will ensure safe and efficient transportation of the Lung Bus to various locations in the First Health service area, and ensure the Lung Bus meets all required inspections and First Health driving standards as set by Fleet Maintenance. The ideal candidate has strong driving experience, mechanical aptitude, and is dependable, flexible, and takes pride in representing First Health’s mission to provide essential services to patients in need.

Responsibilities
  • Safely operate the Lung Bus to and from designated locations across the service area.
  • Ensure the vehicle is clean, fueled, and ready for daily operations.
  • Ensure the vehicle is properly maintained while stored at Fleet Maintenance.
  • Assist with repairs and service; make field repairs as needed.
  • Perform general repair work.
  • Maintain accurate driving logs and adhere to all DOT and company safety regulations.
  • Conduct daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections, including fluid levels, tire pressure, and safety equipment.
  • Assist medical staff with the setup and operation of the mobile CT scanner.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety and health regulations.
  • Coordinate with clinical staff to align arrival/departure times and assist with site setup.
  • Monitor weather and traffic conditions to adjust routes for safety and efficiency.
  • Serve as a friendly and professional representative of the organization while on-site.
  • Provide exceptional customer service.
Operational Support
  • Assist with setup and breakdown of Lung Bus events, including tents, tables, signage, and power sources.
  • Assist with basic vehicle upkeep and coordinate with Fleet Maintenance and other maintenance vendors as needed.
  • Manage inventory of mobile supplies (e.g., PPE, forms, promotional materials) and restock as needed.
  • Perform inspections to determine the cost of repair needs or estimate the cost of repair.
  • Act as liaison between Fleet Maintenance and the Manager of Lung Bus Operations.
  • Help track service schedules and ensure readiness of the Lung Bus.
  • Support basic troubleshooting of equipment (e.g., generators, Wi‑Fi hotspots, refrigeration units).
  • Help coordinate logistics for multi‑site schedules, including timing, routing, and communication with clinic teams.
  • Maintain the readiness of the Lung Bus by supporting minor maintenance tasks and reporting issues promptly.
  • Assist with documentation and reporting related to mobile operations and patient volume tracking.
  • Provide support to Fleet Maintenance when needed.
Strategy and Innovation Support
  • Collaborate with the acquisition team to support during clinic transitions.
  • Transport equipment, signage, and materials to new clinic locations during onboarding.
  • Provide on‑site support during First Health events.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the goals of the Strategy and Innovation (including Lung Bus) team.
Qualifications
  • Valid CDL (Commercial Driver’s License) with a clean driving record.
  • More than 2 years of professional driving experience.
  • Experience operating large vehicles or mobile medical units preferred.
  • Strong organizational and problem‑solving skills.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and comfort with mobile equipment.
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions and maintain confidentiality.
  • Basic technical knowledge of medical imaging equipment.
  • Ability to adapt to changing schedules.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across departments and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Willingness to travel and support operational needs in various environments.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including early mornings, late evenings, or occasional weekends.
