NUTRITION EDUCATOR -

The Florida Department of Health in Pinellas County is seeking a Nutrition Educator to assist the Local Agency's WIC Program. The individual in this position will assist with coordinating nutrition education services in addition to implementing and monitoring the policies and procedures of the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC Program) for the Florida Department of Health in Pinellas County to assure compliance with Federal regulations and state policies and procedures as described in the WIC Procedure Manual DHM 150-24, WIC Data System User Guide, WIC Data System Manager Guide, WIC CPA (Competent Professional Authority) Guidebook, Formula Reference Guide and Formulary.

Responsibilities include:

• Certifying clients for participation in the WIC Program in accordance with policies and regulations states in the WIC Manual.
• Providing nutrition education on a group or individual basis in the area of infant, childhood, prenatal and postnatal (including breastfeeding) nutrition to promote development and maintenance of good nutrition habits.
• Maintaining productivity standards for nutrition education and counseling.
• Performing anthropometric duties to include hemoglobin as needed.
• Using FL Wise, e-Progress and other programs developed by the local agency WIC program to perform clinic functions.
• Coordinating nutrition education services for assigned clients and making referrals for appropriated services.
• Accurately completing and entering all forms and information such as EAR's, contact documentation, leave and attendance records, mileage, etc., by the required deadline.
• Attending and participating in staff meetings, in-service training, and other professional and staff development activities.
• Developing, monitoring, evaluating and revising nutrition education plans for individual clients not at medical high nutritional risk.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Knowledge of normal nutrition principles and food needs throughout the life cycle.
• Ability to determine nutritional needs and nutrition education plans for individuals who are not at medical high nutritional risk.
• Ability to provide nutrition education to others in groups or individual instruction.
• Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

Qualifications:

• Minimum
  - Bachelor's degree in dietetics, human nutrition, food & nutrition, or a closely related field from an accredited college or university Academy of Nutrition & Dietetics accredited program (Florida Statues Chapter 468, section 509).
• One or more years of nutrition experience.
• Preferred
  - One or more years of WIC experience.
• Bilingual with fluency in English and Spanish.
