- Become familiar with educational guides, materials, students’ individual folders, and equipment prior to the school year.
- Prepare and make available each child’s IEP and anticipated weekly plans to the principal or designated person.
- Develop a specific number of instructional periods for each individual child as needed and indicated in the child’s IEP.
- Attempt to remediate deficits through teaching of needed skills as indicated in each child’s Individual Evaluation and IEP.
- Develop or update each child’s IEP annually as mandated by IDEA and Louisiana Act 754.
- Review short‑term objectives on each child’s IEP and submit a report to the parent every six weeks.
- Maintain individual files of each student’s work and test results.
- Create and maintain a physical environment conducive to learning, including bulletin boards, seating arrangements, ventilation, and illumination.
- Develop and maintain reasonable rules for the care of school properties, facilities, and equipment with regular inspections.
- Utilize available curriculum materials, equipment, and facilities frequently in the teaching process.
- Maintain student discipline and safety at all times in accordance with state and local regulations.
- Perform supervisory duties as needed.
- Maintain accurate attendance, financial, and other records in the teacher role book.
- Report to the school prior to the first full day of operations for classroom orientation.
- Maintain current records and submit required reports, IEPs, and re‑evaluation requests to the special education department.
- Attend in‑service workshops and participate in self‑developmental activities, including professional organization membership.
- Promote the educational process by sharing ideas and materials with staff.
- Work in professional harmony with staff, administrators, and IEP committees.
- Keep abreast of new trends, techniques, and teaching strategies.
- Meet with parents, students, and staff and conduct IEP committee meetings.
- Participate in at least one school‑sponsored activity annually.
- Work effectively with school personnel and consistently demonstrate self‑direction.
- Submit accurate records and reports promptly and exhibit professional ethics.
- Foster open communication and positive relationships with school personnel, staff, and the community.
- Perform all other duties delegated by the principal.
- Louisiana State Certification for Special Education (Bulletin 746).
- Experience teaching students with diverse learning needs.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to develop, implement, and assess Individualized Education Plans (IEPs).
