REPORTS TO: Principal/Assistant Principal/Other Assigned Evaluator
JOB GOAL: To plan, organize and implement an appropriate instructional program in a learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic potential. The teacher is responsible for growth in student learning.
TERM: Nine, Ten, Eleven or Twelve Months
Performance Responsibilities- I. Instructional Responsibilities:
- To establish learning objectives, immediate and long-range, with written minimum, daily, weekly or unit lesson plan available in the classroom. Planning shall provide for systematic growth in fundamental knowledge, skills, appreciation, and attitudes.
- To teach effectively using class time for designated subject matter, various techniques to stimulate learning, a variety of curriculum materials, differentiating assignments, explaining assignments, limiting homework, evaluating learning frequently, giving teacher‑made tests each grading period.
- To make provision for individual differences using effective grouping, procedures or individualizing instruction.
- To maintain an atmosphere conducive to learning, demonstrate respect for child development, exhibit substantial subject knowledge, promote self‑discipline, character, and positive control techniques.
- To follow rules and regulations of assigned school and the Rapides Parish School Board.
- To adhere to the time and duty schedule authorized by the principal, remain in assigned area at class start, supervise class, remain at school unless permission obtained.
- To sign in/out, attend administrative and professional meetings, notify principal of absences, follow board staff guidelines, maintain a clean classroom, handle textbooks and materials, complete records promptly.
- To manage field trips: obtain permission, get parental consent, ensure educational value, prepare pupils, secure liability and licensing, supervise, ensure pick‑up with authorized person.
- To exhibit enthusiasm and self‑confidence, maintain good public relations, act ethically, participate in faculty and system‑wide in‑service programs, remain loyal to administration.
- To establish and execute a professional growth and self‑evaluation plan in accordance with personnel plans.
- To carry out Performance Expectations and Indicators for Teachers in the NIET rubric:
Standards and Objectives, Motivating Students, Presenting Instructional Content, Lesson Structure and Pacing, Activities and Materials, Questioning, Academic Feedback, Grouping Students, Teacher Content Knowledge, Teacher Knowledge of Students, Thinking, Problem Solving.
- Instructional Plans: objectives aligned, activities, materials, assessment sequences, reflecting student needs.
- Student Work: assignments aligned, requiring interpretation, conclusions, connection to prior learning.
- Assessment: aligned, varied question types, multiple performance measures.
- Expectations: clear, rigorous academic expectations, high‑quality materials, encourage learning from mistakes.
- Engaging Students and Managing Behavior: promote engagement, establish rules, use techniques to maintain a positive environment.
- Environment: classroom organized, supplies accessible, display current student work.
- Respectful Conditions: positive interactions, respect, kindness, no harmful conflict.
- Observe standards of conduct inside and outside school, dress appropriately, avoid vulgar language, maintain self‑control, physical health, clear speech, adapt to new situations.
- Be on time, attend required meetings, use federal/state policies, maintain attendance except for illness or emergency.
- Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of teaching and learning.
- Instructional Components: lesson plans, instruction, collaboration, grading, attendance, grade entry, parent interaction, committees.
- Supervision: supervise students in various settings.
- Non‑instructional Components: meetings, training, IEP, parent conferences, school events, discipline hearings.
