The Plant Engineer II provides engineering and technical support/assistance for operating, maintenance, and performance issues at regulated and unregulated plants in Cleco’s fleet. The role includes technical support, troubleshooting, development of technical specifications for repairs and component replacements, project development and management, budget development and management, contractor management and tracking, outage planning and support, and root cause failure analyses.
The engineer has a basic knowledge of power plant processes, operations, maintenance, and engineering and manages routine matters under direction from senior engineers. The position may require additional hours, alternate locations, or duties in connection with storms, outages, emergencies, or other situations as needed.

- Provide engineering and technical support and assistance for operating, maintenance, and performance issues.
- Assist with and/or manage non-Playbook Capital and O&M projects, including conceptual design, budget development, specifications, detailed engineering, equipment procurement, contractor and construction management, commissioning of new equipment, staff training, and project closeout.
- Manage project work for retrofits and new additions.
- Assist in providing economic analysis and feasibility studies on existing and proposed plant equipment or modifications.
- Complete budget estimates to support O&M and Capital projects.
- Generate bid specifications to support projects and perform engineering evaluations on the bids.
- Ensure compliance with applicable codes: UL, ASME, IEEE, National Board, federal, state, and local codes.
- Provide engineering analyses, inspections, and support to operations and maintenance to keep equipment running at maximum reliability and performance while maintaining personnel safety, asset reliability, and environmental compliance.
- Monitor equipment performance and identify and troubleshoot deviations from expected values that impact unit performance.
- Review and analyze predictive and preventive maintenance data as needed.
- Develop and implement recommendations to reduce operational and maintenance expenses.
- Provide long‑range planning for maintenance, repair, and capital improvement projects.
- Provide input for development of annual operations and maintenance budgets, accruals, and quarterly revisions based on inspections, reliability plans, and maintenance requirements.
- Participate in and/or lead teams focused on specific problem areas or needs for generating units (e.g., Root Cause Analysis and Condition Assessments).
- Develop checklists, procedures, and training programs for plant personnel for new and existing equipment.
- Collaborate with engineers to complete project tasks, seeking technical assistance when needed to meet project milestones.
- Develop and maintain a good relationship and become accessible to plant management personnel at Cleco Power and Cleco Cajun Sites.
- Support plant operations and maintenance as requested.
- Communicate on a regular basis with manager and senior engineers, provide status updates on assigned tasks, and actively support business development objectives.
- Receive direction from more senior engineers.
- Assist as a technical resource for a defined project team and execute defined project tasks, milestones, and priorities in the short term according to ongoing manager guidance.
- Support the execution of fleet‑wide asset management programs.
- Manage assigned projects within defined scope and budget.
- Communicate changes to scope, schedule, and/or cost to all stakeholders in a timely manner.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering from an ABET‑accredited curriculum or with NCEES Certification to sit for the FE exam; 3‑5+ years of related experience. Candidates with experience in similar industrial settings…
