EngineerIII – Transmission Planning
This professional is responsible for performing Transmission Engineering studies independently, including Steady State, Dynamic and Adjusted Production Cost studies for both long-term and near-term planning horizons. The engineer ensures that Cleco's Power Transmission system will serve customers well into the future and supports multiple departments within Cleco Power and Cleco Cajun.
Key Responsibilities- Champions a corporate culture that emphasizes transparency, integrity, safety, environmental responsibility, employee development, sense of belonging, customer service, and operational excellence.
- Performs both long- and short-range studies of the transmission system, identifies deficiencies, and recommends feasible alternative solutions to meet NERC compliance requirements. Conducts sensitivity studies to justify capital transmission projects supporting Cleco Power’s transmission strategy.
- Coordinates data with neighboring transmission companies and MISO for development of annual power‑flow models.
- Accurately models operational conditions for next‑day assessments and assists in the outage coordination process.
- Performs studies for new customer loads and new generation interconnections as needed.
- Serves as a technical resource for studies performed for external departments.
- Models and promotes ethical business conduct and compliance with all applicable laws, rules, and regulations.
- Supports Transmission Operations desk for real‑time events as needed.
- Utilizes engineering standards, procedures, and processes, and recommends process improvements as necessary.
- Assists entry‑level staff within project teams, onboarding them and supporting project milestones.
- Communicates status updates on project activities and identifies risks in delivery or resourcing needs.
- Fully understands the Cleco Transmission Network to anticipate issues with studies based on previous work.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET‑accredited curriculum
- FE/PE preferred
- 5–7+ years of related experience
- Good interpersonal skills and strong written and oral communication skills
- Excellent math skills
- Ability to work under pressure
- Ability to recognize process‑improvement opportunities and make improvements
- Willingness and ability to learn new technologies on the job
- Proficient at functioning effectively in a team environment, presenting ideas and opinions respectfully and collegially
- Progression to this level is strictly restricted based on critical individual capabilities and business requirements; must be supported by market survey data.
