DIS-TRAN Steel is looking for an experienced Fitter II to join the team in Pineville.

Responsibilities
  • Fit steel layouts according to specifications.
  • Perform duties with speed and accuracy to produce a quality product and keep a steady flow of products.
  • Use measuring tools such as tape measure or other devices.
  • Operate moving machinery or equipment including cranes to manipulate steel structures.
  • Work from a variety of shop drawings with minimum supervision and little rework required.
  • Train individuals in the Fitter I position.
  • Operate safety equipment and use safe work habits.
  • Position, align, and weld parts to form complete structures, following blueprints and layout specifications, using machinery, welding torches, and hand tools.
  • Recognize, set up, and operate hand and power tools common to the welding trade.
  • Examine steel or work pieces before processing to ensure specifications are met.
  • Move parts safely into position, manually or with hoists or cranes.
  • Produce complete joint penetration welds that meet visual and ultrasonic inspection.
  • Read and understand welding symbols.
  • Prepare all joints as required by AWS D1.1 structural steel welding code.
  • Weld components in flat position.
  • Operate manual welding equipment to fuse metal parts using the gas metal arc process.
  • Cleans and repairs welds with grinders, arc gougers, and other equipment common to the welding trade.
  • Examine work pieces for defects and measure with weld gauges to ensure conformance with specifications and SOPs.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Ability to interpret blueprints and read a tape measure required.
  • Welding certification or prior welding experience with the successful passing of DIS-TRAN Steel’s Welder II test required.
  • Capable of producing complete joint penetration welds that meet all visual and ultrasonic inspection per AWS D1.1 structural steel welding code.
  • Ability to produce high quality welds in all applications, with various material types; make all welds neatly and consistently; weld within weld procedure required.
  • Proficiency using standard set of weld gauges required.
  • Ability to properly set, maintain, and troubleshoot welding equipment required.
  • GMAW experience required.
  • Certifications or prior experience using moving machinery such as cranes preferred.
  • Strong safety record.
  • Strong work ethic and high production speed.
