Production Welder - Night Shift

Overview

DIS-TRAN Steel, located in Pineville, LA, is looking for experienced Production Welders to join our team on nights. The Production Welder must be capable of performing all welds needed on our structures and must understand instructions given in regard to the welds. This individual must be able to perform duties with speed and accuracy to produce a quality product and keep a steady flow through the facility.

This position will frequently use calculating skills, by tape measure or other device, and will use other moving machinery or equipment, including cranes, to manipulate steel structures.

• Operate safety equipment and use safe work habits.
• Position, align, and weld parts to form complete structures, following blueprints and layout specifications, using machinery, welding torches, and hand tools.
• Recognize, set up, and operate hand and power tools common to the welding trade.
• Examine steel or work pieces to be processed to ensure that specifications are met.
• Move parts safely into position; manually or with hoists or cranes.
• Produce complete joint penetration welds that meet visual and ultrasonic inspection.
• Read and understand welding symbols.
• Prepare all joints as required by AWS D1.1 structural steel welding code.
• Weld components in flat position.
• Operate manual welding equipment to fuse metal parts using the gas metal arc process.
• Cleave and repair welds with grinders, arc gougers, and other equipment and methods common to the welding trade.
• Examine work pieces for defects and measure with weld gauges to ensure conformance with specifications and standard operating procedures.

• High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Ability to interpret blueprints and read a tape measure required.
• Welding certification or prior welding experience with the successful passing of DIS-TRAN Steel’s Welder II test is required.
• Capable of producing complete joint penetration welds that meet all visual and ultrasonic inspection per AWS D1.1 structural steel welding code.
• Ability to produce high quality welds in all applications, with various material types, and weld within weld procedure is required.
• Ability to use standard set of weld gauges is required.
• Ability to properly set, maintain, and troubleshoot welding equipment is required.
• GMAW experience required.
• Certifications or prior experience using moving machinery, such as cranes, preferred.
• Production speeds exceed training/learning pace and often look for improvement in processes.
