Position Summary

The HR/Safety Generalist plays a dual role in supporting both employee engagement and workplace safety within a high-volume commercial bakery. This position is responsible for promoting a positive and compliant work environment by ensuring effective HR practices, leading safety initiatives, and supporting bakery leadership with employee relations, compliance, and training. The HR/Safety Generalist partners closely with employees, supervisors, and managers to foster a safe, inclusive, and engaged workplace culture.

Key Responsibilities Employee Relations
  • Serve as a point of contact for employee concerns, providing guidance and support to ensure fair and consistent actions.
  • Conduct safety walks and engage employees in open conversations to identify opportunities to improve safety and employee experience.
  • Gather regular feedback from employees on workplace conditions, uniforms, and safety-related needs.
  • Support bakery leadership in maintaining positive employee relations and resolving workplace issues.
Safety Reporting & Compliance
  • Review incident reports for completeness, accuracy, and timely submission.
  • Maintain and organize safety-related documentation in a central safety folder and in employee personnel files.
  • Maintain, post, and submit the OSHA 300 log and other regulatory safety records.
  • Arrange, document, and drive safety committee meetings to promote a proactive safety culture.
  • Ensure the facility Safety Plan is updated, compliant, and effectively communicated.
Safety Training & Development
  • Distribute scheduled safety training materials to supervisors and employees.
  • Track and record safety training completions in the company’s systems (e.g., PF).
  • Follow up with supervisors and teams to ensure timely completion of required training.
  • Implement additional proactive training identified by leadership or regulatory changes.
  • Coordinate specialized training, including First Aid, CPR, AED, evacuation drills, and other compliance-driven safety initiatives.
General HR Support
  • Support HR team members with day-to-day HR administration, compliance, and employee services.
  • Assist in planning and executing engagement events to foster a positive and collaborative workplace culture.
  • Support supervisors in administering and collecting company-wide surveys and reporting feedback to leadership.
  • Partner with the recruiting team to support hiring initiatives, including interviews, onboarding, and new-hire orientation.
  • Assist with benefits administration, including Open Enrollment support, employee questions, and documentation.
  • Lead and support HR-related training campaigns for supervisors and employees (e.g., workplace conduct, harassment prevention, performance management).
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Safety Management, or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
  • 2+ years of experience in HR, Safety, or a combined HR/Safety role, ideally in a manufacturing or food production environment.
  • Knowledge of HR practices, employment law, and workplace safety regulations (OSHA, workers’ compensation, etc.).
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build trust across all levels of the organization.
  • Organized, detail-oriented, and able to balance multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite and HRIS systems; experience with safety management software a plus.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred but not required.
  • This position works on-site in a commercial bakery environment with exposure to production areas, machinery, and food safety protocols.
  • Requires regular walking and standing during safety walks and training activities.
  • Evening availability may be needed for training or special events.
