Overview

Provides empathetic pharmacy consulting services to patients regarding the effective use of medications and drug interaction awareness. Offers preventive and clinical healthcare services, including immunizations, diagnostic testing, and patient outcome services. Ensures prescribed medications are compounded, reviewed, dispensed, and verified accurately according to regulatory guidelines and company policies and procedures. Manages an efficient pharmacy workflow, inventory, and patient experience, and oversees the professional development and engagement of pharmacy staff.

Responsibilities
  • Patient Experience
    • Engage patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services; resolve issues promptly and answer questions to ensure a positive patient experience.
    • Model and share customer service best practices to deliver a distinctive and compassionate patient experience, including respectful interpersonal behavior and Walgreens service traits.
    • Connect with patients by anticipating needs and proactively offering services (e.g., patient consultation, medication management, drug therapy reviews, immunizations, diagnostic testing, and patient outcomes services) to elevate the pharmacy role from transactional to interpersonal.
    • Participate in events that reflect the communities served as requested by leadership.
  • Operations
    • Counsel patients on medication usage, side effects, interactions, contraindications, privacy, generics, cost considerations, and OTC products; refer to medical providers as needed to ensure correct use and satisfaction.
    • Perform pharmacist tasks including compounding, drug therapy reviews, verification, and medication management; review, interpret, and dispense prescribed medications accurately.
    • Ensure compliance with regulations, policies, and standards; oversee staff scheduling, roles, and workflow; manage opening/closing of the pharmacy and shift changes.
    • Apply Good Faith Dispensing practices in accordance with state and federal controlled substance laws.
    • Collaborate with Store Manager to develop new strategic business opportunities.
    • Maintain information technology knowledge of pharmacy systems (workflow, fulfillment, billing, documentation, training, inventory, POS); assist staff and patients with IT needs and seek productivity improvements.
    • Process insurance claims accurately, resolve issues with payers, and participate in third-party audits as needed.
    • Follow up with medical providers on medications, dosages, refills, interactions, and allergies and suggest alternatives as appropriate.
    • Provide clinical and wellness services (immunizations, diagnostic testing, disease state management, etc.).
    • Partner with centralized support for patient registration and issue resolution; in virtual environments, conduct virtual product reviews per company procedures.
    • Maintain and improve the pharmacy department’s facilities and equipment, and prepare required records and reports in accordance with state and federal laws.
  • People & Performance Management
    • Collaborate with Store Manager on hiring, disciplinary actions, and compliance with employment laws.
    • Establish expectations and goals, promote teamwork, and recognize improvements; oversee training and formal performance reviews.
    • Identify high-potential team members and support career progression.
    • Address employee relations concerns and maintain positive morale and relationships.
  • Training & Personal Development
    • Maintain required licensing, credentialing, and certification to provide clinical services.
    • Keep knowledge current by reading relevant publications; pursue best practices to enhance business and pharmacy performance.
    • Complete required education credits and training; seek professional development with mentors and coaches.
  • Communications
    • Support leadership by sharing relevant health and wellness service information with pharmacy staff.
  • Business Performance Management
    • Analyze performance data (pharmacy financials, customer service, inventory); oversee inventory management and asset protection; identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
Qualifications
  • BS in Pharmacy or Pharm
