Job Summary

The vibration test engineer is responsible for conducting propeller vibration test activities to determine compatible propeller and engine combinations for aircraft. Responsibilities include defining test and instrumentation requirements, coordinating test activities, managing test asset logistics, data analysis and interpretation, and communicating results. The role requires up to 25% travel, primarily domestic, with occasional international trips of 2–3 weeks. Daily work will involve office tasks, lab work, hangar installation, and test flights to gather data.

This position leads to attainment of FAA ODA Unit Member status.

Key Deliverables
  • Perform propeller vibration test functions to determine propeller and engine compatibility
  • Manage project assignments, including planning and executing vibration tests
  • Analyze data and write technical reports on testing and compatibility
  • Communicate with co‑workers, customers, and outside consultants regarding design, configuration, and installation issues
First Year Success Factors
  • Learn the Hartzell product line and internal technical data systems
  • Learn propeller vibration theory
  • Assist in conducting vibration tests
  • Conduct tests independently by year’s end
  • Operate Hartzell vibration test equipment
  • Install strain gauges on aluminum and carbon‑fiber components
  • Manage multiple concurrent project assignments
Requirements Required Education/Experience

BS in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or Aerospace Engineering Technology with an A&P certificate. 5+ years of engineering experience.

Preferred Education/Experience

Flight test experience is a big plus. Airplane pilot experience and knowledge of general‑aviation aircraft is highly desirable. Experience with or knowledge of electronic equipment is also highly desirable.

  • Knowledge of flight testing: test plans, techniques, data acquisition, reduction, and report preparation
  • Knowledge of vibration and fatigue

  • Proficient with MS‑Office or similar computer tools
