Job SummaryThe vibration test engineer is responsible for conducting propeller vibration test activities to determine compatible propeller and engine combinations to be installed on aircraft. The role includes defining test and instrumentation requirements, coordinating test activities, managing test asset logistics, analyzing data, interpreting results, and communicating findings. Many test campaigns take place at customer sites, requiring up to 25% travel, mostly domestic with occasional international trips lasting up to 2–3 weeks.
Daily work will involve office tasks, test lab work, and hangar installation of propellers and vibration test equipment. The position requires flying in the test vehicle to gather data and will lead to attainment of FAA ODA Unit Member status.
- Execute propeller vibration tests to determine propeller and engine compatibility.
- Manage project assignments, including test planning and execution.
- Analyze data and author technical reports documenting testing and compatibility.
- Communicate with coworkers, customers, and external consultants on design, configuration, and installation issues.
- Acquire knowledge of the Hartzell product line and internal technical data systems.
- Learn propeller vibration theory.
- Assist in conducting propeller vibration tests.
- Perform tests independently by the end of the first year.
- Operate Hartzell propeller vibration test equipment.
- Install strain gauges on aluminum and carbon‑fiber components proficiently.
- Manage multiple concurrent project assignments.
Required Education/
Experience:
BS in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or Aerospace Engineering Technology with an A&P certificate. Minimum 5 years of engineering experience.
Preferred Education/
Experience:
Flight test experience; pilot experience and knowledge of general aviation aircraft; experience or knowledge of electronic equipment.
- Knowledge of flight testing: test plans, techniques, data acquisition and reduction, test reports.
- Knowledge of vibration and fatigue.
- Knowledge of aircraft performance.
- Proficient computer skills (MS Office minimum).
