Logistics Specialist

The Logistics Specialist is responsible for supporting international export shipments for secondary export markets, ocean freight bookings, container scheduling, inbound vendor freight and providing cross-functional logistics support across the department. The Logistics Specialist will communicate shipment information to customers, accounting department, and Operations.

Responsibilities and Duties:

• Prepares information on manifest such as name of shipper, weight, destination, and charges from bills of lading and shipper's declaration.
• Makes bookings for export orders to but not limited to – Japan, Europe, Middle East, India and miscellaneous export markets.
• Schedules containers and drayage and coordinates shipment priorities.
• Communicates with freight forwarders and Production Team for shipment timing.
• Assists in negotiating international freight rates to determine most efficient and economical routing and mode of transportation.
• Initiates investigations into causes of damage or shortages in consignments or overcharges and prevention of detention / demurrage.
• Responsible for coordinating inbound trucking with procurement department.
• Provides shipment tracking to customers.
• Prepares invoices by figuring footages from tallies and taking dollar amounts of sale from acknowledgement, ensuring the utmost accuracy of figures.
• Obtains documents / information for customers.
• Posts transactions to accounting records such as work sheets, ledger, or computer files.
• Cross trains with Shipping Coordinator & Documentation Coordinator.
• Assists Shipping Coordinator during overflow periods.

Requirements

Qualifications and

Required Skills:

• 2 - 5 years related experience in shipping with minimum of 3 years shipping experience is desired
• Associates degree is a plus
• Excellent data entry skills with high accuracy and detail oriented
• Use of basic math is required
• Ability to multi-task
• International documentation experience a plus
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Strong working knowledge in Excel, Word, and Outlook is desired
