Maintenance Mechanic - Plastic & Paper Manufacturing

We are seeking an experienced Maintenance Mechanic to support the safe, reliable operation of industrial manufacturing and production equipment. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on mechanical troubleshooting experience in a manufacturing environment, with exposure to plastic extrusion, thermoforming, printing, paper converting, packaging, conveyors, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, motors, pumps, and related industrial equipment.

This position will be responsible for preventive and corrective maintenance, emergency breakdown response, equipment troubleshooting, repairs, adjustments, and identifying opportunities to improve equipment reliability and reduce production downtime.

Mechanical Maintenance

• Troubleshoot, repair, maintain, and adjust manufacturing and production equipment.
• Perform scheduled preventive and corrective maintenance.
• Inspect equipment for worn, damaged, loose, or defective components.
• Repair or replace bearings, belts, chains, gears, shafts, pulleys, couplings, motors, pumps, valves, and other mechanical components.
• Perform machine alignment, adjustments, and lubrication.
• Assist with equipment installation, relocation, modifications, and upgrades.
• Respond to emergency equipment breakdowns and production maintenance calls.
• Identify recurring equipment failures and recommend corrective actions.

Plastic Extrusion Equipment

• Maintain and troubleshoot extruders and extrusion lines.
• Work with extrusion motors, drives, gearboxes, heaters, temperature controls, cooling systems, dies, material-feed systems, rollers, conveyors, and take-off systems.
• Troubleshoot hydraulic, pneumatic, sensor, and production-control components.
• Work with production personnel to restore equipment to proper operating condition.

Thermoforming Equipment

• Maintain and troubleshoot thermoforming machines and forming stations.
• Support heating systems, temperature controls, molds, tooling, vacuum and pressure systems.
• Troubleshoot pneumatic cylinders, valves, servo motors, mechanical drives, conveyors, sensors, photo eyes, and safety devices.
• Assist with mold/tooling changes, machine adjustments, and preventive maintenance.

Printing & Paper Converting Equipment

• Support maintenance of industrial printing and dry-offset equipment.
• Troubleshoot printing cylinders, rollers, ink systems, motors, drives, pneumatic components, sensors, controls, and conveyors.
• Maintain paper converting equipment, including cutting, forming, folding, gluing, paper-feed systems, rollers, shafts, motors, gearboxes, and related machinery.

Packaging & Production Equipment

• Maintain packaging machinery, conveyors, case packers, material-handling equipment, pumps, compressors, motors, gearboxes, and automated production equipment.
• Support reliable operation of equipment throughout the manufacturing process.

Hydraulic & Pneumatic Systems

• Troubleshoot hydraulic and pneumatic equipment.
• Inspect and repair hoses, fittings, cylinders, valves, regulators, and pressure systems.
• Identify and repair air and hydraulic leaks.
• Replace defective components and verify proper operating pressures.

Electrical & Controls

• Perform basic electrical troubleshooting within appropriate qualifications and authorization.
• Troubleshoot motors, switches, sensors, photo eyes, relays, contractors, and basic control components.
• Assist qualified personnel with electrical repairs and installations.
• Support basic machine-control and PLC troubleshooting when trained and authorized.
• Follow all applicable electrical safety and Lockout/Tagout procedures.

Preventive Maintenance & Breakdown Response

• Complete scheduled preventive maintenance and maintain accurate maintenance records.
• Inspect machinery and replace worn components before failures occur.
• Respond quickly to equipment breakdowns and diagnose root causes.
• Complete repairs safely and efficiently and test equipment before returning it to production.
• Document significant repairs and recurring equipment failures.
• Recommend maintenance improvements to increase equipment reliability and reduce downtime.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of industrial maintenance experience preferred.
• Manufacturing, plastic, paper, packaging, converting, or similar industrial experience strongly preferred.
• Experience with plastic extrusion and/or thermoforming equipment highly desirable.
• Strong mechanical troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
• Working knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
• Basic electrical troubleshooting experience.
