Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Laboratory/Technical Assistant (Seasonal) for the School of Arts and Sciences - Genetics Department. This role will work in the Brand Lab which studies the functional and evolutionary impacts of repetitive DNA using Drosophila melanogaster as a model system. This position will work under the direct supervision of the Principal Investigator.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
* Provides essential research and operational support to an active research program that integrates genetics, cell biology, and evolutionary biology.
* Performs laboratory experiments independently following established protocols including immunofluorescence staining, microscopy, standard molecular biology techniques such as PCR and cloning.
* Maintains and manages Drosophila stocks and crosses.
* Assists with data collection, organization, and analysis.
* Supports general lab operations.
* Contributes to an inclusive and collaborative lab environment.
FLSA Nonexempt Salary Details $18 - $22 per hour Offer Information
The final salary offer may be determined by several factors, including, but not limited to, the candidate's qualifications, experience, and expertise, and availability of department or grant funds to support the position. Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience
* Bachelor's degree in Biology or a related scientific/technical discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and/or relevant laboratory technician or research study experience carrying out research protocols and tests, or other technical work may be substituted for the degree.
Certifications/Licenses Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
* Ability to effectively perform lab bench work.
Preferred Qualifications
* Experience in molecular biology techniques such as high-resolution melt analysis.
* Computational experience in R and Python.
