Posting Summary

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Research Associate II for the Pharmacology Department in the Center for Advanced Biotechnology and Medicine (CABM) of Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences (RBHS).

The primary purpose of the Research Associate II is to be responsible for the conduct of highly specialized and technical research on the topic of exploiting metabolic vulnerabilities in cancer. The Valvezan Laboratory studies how metabolic networks are coordinated to promote cell growth, and how to leverage that understanding to exploit metabolic dependencies in cancer. We discovered a targetable metabolic vulnerability that is induced downstream of mTORC1 in cancer, and can be exploited using clinically approved therapeutics to selectively kill cancer cells that have uncontrolled mTORC1 activation.

Research Associate II will work to determine the full translational potential of this potent vulnerability in human cancers. The Research Associate II will work at the interface of basic and translational science, combining genetic, pharmacological and molecular biology/biochemistry approaches with the latest metabolomics, metabolic flux analysis, and expression profiling assays in cultured cells and mouse tumor models to gain a comprehensive understanding of how signaling pathways remodel cellular metabolism and how to leverage these insights for therapeutic benefit.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:

* Performs various research and technical operations on the topic of exploiting metabolic vulnerabilities in cancer. Conducts research independently or as assigned specialized research for a particular project.

* Participates in the design and execution of experiments in cultured cells and mice to study signaling and/or metabolism in cell growth and cancer.

* Performs standard cell and molecular biology techniques including PCR, qPCR, gel electrophoresis, western blotting, immunofluorescence, immunohistochemical staining, cell growth and viability assays, flow cytometry.

* Keeps detailed records of procedures and experiments. Compiles data and presents findings.

* Prepares scientific manuscripts for publication, and contributes to the preparation of research grant and fellowship applications.

* Works independently as well as collaboratively, with a strong work ethic and attention to detail.

* Participates in the development of performance standards, selection of methodology and instrumentation and coordination of the analytical, biochemical, physiology and instrumentation functions with the research…
