Research Teaching Specialist V
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Research Teaching Specialist V for the Department of Neuroscience and Cell Biology at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. Under the direction of the Principal Investigator, the Research Teaching Specialist V performs research activities investigating the role of transcription factors in controlling motor neuron development and susceptibility to neurodegeneration.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
As directed, performs various research and technical operations relative to the ongoing investigatory activities of the laboratory. Participates in the evaluation of existing procedures suggesting revisions where necessary and proposing new procedures where required. Assists with training fellows, medical students and lab technicians in laboratory techniques as directed. Responsible for submitting purchase recommendations to his/her supervisor and lab manager. Ensures that laboratory equipment is maintained in good working orders.
Keeps detailed records of procedures and experiments. Assists in cloning and generating AAVs, injecting AAVs into mice. Assists in animal husbandry of control and disease models, tail biopsy collection, monitoring health of colonies. Assists in histological preparation of tissue for immunocytochemistry.

Minimum Education and Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in a relevant science.
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Must possess strong writing skills, be well organized and have ability to think independently.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior research experience an asset. Knowledge in motor neuron biology, neurodegeneration and ALS, and skills including immunohistochemistry and imaging, highly preferred. Hands on experience working with motor neurons either in tissue or in culture with stem cell derived motor neurons, preferred.
