Boiler Operator / Stationary Engineer
This role involves operating and monitoring high-pressure boilers across multiple campus sites, maintaining accurate documentation, and ensuring safe, continuous operation of critical building systems. You will perform routine inspections, log readings in a log book, respond to issues promptly, and interact professionally with campus personnel and building occupants.
Responsibilities
- Operate and monitor high-pressure boilers and related equipment in a stationary engineer capacity.
- Log all boiler readings and system data accurately and consistently in a log book.
- Inspect worksites regularly to identify potential problems, hazards, or irregularities in boiler performance and related systems.
- Respond promptly to issues or alarms and take appropriate corrective actions to maintain safe and reliable operation.
- Check and adjust temperature controls, gauges, and other instrumentation to ensure systems operate within specified parameters.
- Maintain clear and thorough documentation of inspections, maintenance activities, and any incidents or corrective actions taken.
- Travel between different campus sites as needed to perform inspections, checks, and routine operational tasks.
- Provide courteous and professional customer service when interacting with campus staff, students, and other building occupants.
- Follow all safety procedures and regulatory requirements related to high-pressure boiler operation.
- Collaborate with other facilities personnel to support continuous operation of the university's buildings and infrastructure.
Essential Skills
- Proven experience operating high-pressure boilers, preferably in a stationary engineer role.
- Experience logging boiler readings and system data in a log book.
- Experience inspecting worksites for potential problems or hazards related to boiler and mechanical systems.
- Strong customer service skills and the ability to interact professionally while visiting different sites on campus.
- High pressure Blue or Red Seal boiler license.
- 1–2 years of experience working with high-pressure boilers.
- Ability to read, interpret, and use temperature controls and gauges.
- Proficiency in documentation writing for operational logs and maintenance records.
- Knowledge of safe work practices and regulatory requirements for high-pressure boiler operation.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Blue Seal certification is highly valued.
- Red Seal certification is highly valued.
- Experience with temperature control systems and related instrumentation.
- Strong attention to detail when documenting readings, inspections, and maintenance activities.
- Ability to work independently across multiple sites and manage time effectively.

Work Environment
The role is based within a multi-city university that operates continuously and does not close, requiring facilities staff to be considered essential personnel. You will work in a campus facilities environment that includes boiler rooms, mechanical spaces, and various campus buildings. The position involves traveling between different sites on campus, monitoring high-pressure boilers, and working with temperature controls, gauges, and other mechanical equipment.
Hours may include coverage during times when the university must remain open, reflecting the essential nature of the facilities department.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of PISCATAWAY, NJ.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $37.00 - $37.00/hr eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
