Position Title:
Disabled Students’ Programs and Services Assistant (Principal).
Salary:
Yearly $59,268 (Step
1) – $72,204 (Step
5). Placement based on experience.
Location:
Pittsburg campus, support to Brentwood Center as needed.
Position Status:
Permanent, Full‑Time, 40 hours per week.
Work Schedule:
Monday–Friday 8:00 am – 5:00 pm, primary office at Pittsburg campus DSPS office, may include days at Brentwood.
Schedule and provide a variety of college services for disabled students; provide administrative support to the disabled student services program.
Distinguishing Characteristics— Aide: basic clerical support; less technical orientation.
— Assistant: full range of duties with minimal supervision, more administrative and secretarial responsibility.
— Coordinator: independent program implementation and administration, managing smaller program area.
- Perform a variety of administrative support functions to assist in coordinating services to students with various disabilities.
- Prepare correspondence, memos and statistical materials; answer phones.
- Assist disabled students with registration and pre‑enrollment; arrange on‑campus transportation, special parking, elevator key.
- Arrange tutors, note takers, other aids; coordinate equipment use and orient students.
- Assist with compilation of data for statistical reports and student records.
- Schedule training programs for faculty, staff and managers; assist faculty providing information on disabled student services.
- Refer students to other appropriate college and community programs and services.
- Assist in preparation of presentations, written information and resource materials about available services.
- Prepare and maintain records and files related to student contacts and service provision.
- Participate in workshops, activities and special programs to promote awareness of disabled student support services.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
One (1) year of progressively responsible program‑related administrative duties, working with students with disabilities in an educational setting.
Education / License or CertificateHigh school diploma, GED or equivalent.
Knowledge of- Policies and regulations related to a disabled student services program.
- Applicable laws and statutes governing access to disabled students programs and services.
- Agencies which serve the needs of disabled individuals.
- Modern office procedures, practices and technology/equipment.
- Philosophy and objectives of student services programs.
- Challenges encountered by disabled students in obtaining college‑level education.
- English usage, grammar, spelling, and vocabulary.
- Basic statistical compilation and record‑keeping methods and procedures.
- Modern software applications (Microsoft Office Suite, etc.).
- Assist students in identifying concerns and problems and suggest appropriate solutions.
- Communicate effectively with students with a variety of disabilities in a sensitive manner.
- Prepare and maintain a variety of records, reports, and confidential materials.
- Schedule and perform support functions for assigned student support program area.
- Understand and carry out verbal or written instructions.
- Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Work independently and exercise good judgment.
- Use keyboard with accuracy.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders.
- Demonstrate understanding of, sensitivity to, and respect for diverse backgrounds of all students, faculty, staff, and those encountered in duty performance.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to effectively use technology and online services such as Colleague or Banner, disability record‑keeping software, Canvas, Zoom, scheduling software or other student information software.
