Position Title

Mathematics Laboratory Coordinator, Senior

Salary

Yearly: $77,748.00 (Step
1) – $94,716.00 (Step
5). New employees may be placed at Step 1 ($77,748.00), Step 2 ($81,684.00), or Step 3 ($85,836.00) depending on experience. Step increases are effective July 1 of each fiscal year until the maximum step is reached.

Location

Pittsburg campus, with some visits to Brentwood campus.

Responsibilities
  • Plan and coordinate laboratory operations for multiple or large math laboratories.
  • Monitors and tutors students in mathematics areas where assistance is needed.
  • Provide students, faculty, and tutors with assistance and training in the operation of computers and laboratory equipment.
  • Identify student needs and develop remediation plans for students with weaknesses in mathematics; advise on study methods and monitor progress.
  • Coordinate tutoring services activities for assigned department(s) and approve time cards.
  • Assist in developing and monitoring department budgets, preparing cost estimates, submitting justifications, and maintaining student billing records.
  • Develop and maintain a reference library and files of resource material for faculty and student use.
  • Assist in the administration of laboratory assignments, exercises, and tests under instructor direction.
  • Develop and implement new or modified laboratory policies and procedures as required.
  • Meet with faculty to understand lesson plans and expectations for student competencies.
  • Monitor computer software and hardware to ensure proper functioning, perform minor maintenance when necessary, and report equipment problems.
  • Coordinate workload of multiple department laboratories and monitor staff assignments.
  • Assist in preparing instructional aids used by students and faculty in the laboratory.
  • Conduct statistical reviews to analyze and assess service effectiveness in assigned laboratory.
  • Promote and advertise tutoring services via web pages, emails, and class visits.
  • Assist in selection, training, supervision, and evaluation of student assistants and tutors; approve and submit timecards for accuracy.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Three (3) years of responsible experience in the operation and maintenance of a laboratory or assisting a college instructor in mathematics.
  • Bachelor’s degree in mathematics (or equivalent) from an accredited college or university.
  • Knowledge of laboratory equipment, software, materials, supplies, and procedures used in a math laboratory.
  • Understanding of basic teaching and learning theories, tutoring principles, and mathematics at the district course level.
  • Familiarity with ERP or other student tracking systems and standard business software (Microsoft Office Suite, etc.).
  • Ability to gather and present general statistical data.
Desirable Qualifications
  • Experience tutoring a broad range of mathematics courses, including statistics and calculus, using student‑centered and equity‑minded approaches.
  • Experience coordinating a math lab or learning support environment, including scheduling, daily operations, and supervising staff or student tutors.
  • Proficiency with educational technology and data systems to assess services, monitor usage, and improve lab effectiveness.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, working closely with faculty, support programs, and administrators.
