Position: Mental Health Assistant - Challenger (Part-Time)

Position Summary

This position provides support and solution-focused interventions to achieve identified goals or objectives as set forth in the consumer’s individualized treatment plan. This position also facilitates services that are designed to assist the consumer with compensating for or eliminating functional deficits and interpersonal and/or environmental barriers associated with their mental illness. At times this position will provide services to consumers who are experiencing a psychiatric crisis with services designed to interrupt and/or ameliorate a crisis experience.

As medically necessary, this position will aid in the form of direct support, supervision, and/or cueing so that the consumer performs the task by him/herself. Many contacts will occur in community locations where the consumer lives, works, attends school and/or socializes. This position conducts activities under the direction of senior clinical staff.

Primary

Job Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assist in assessment of needs assigned consumers
  • Assist consumers in accessing community-based resources
  • Provide transportation to consumers when indicated
  • Assist consumers in tasks related to treatment plan goals
  • Always maintain close physical proximity with assigned consumer during group sessions
  • Assist client to successfully participate in group sessions and activities and assist program facilitator to successfully intervene with the client
  • Participate in activities to role model appropriate behavior
  • Teach, train and provide appropriate interventions and role models for appropriate life skills in-group settings for individual clients.
  • Attend meetings and supervision as directed by supervisor
  • Maintain proper documentation of time and services
  • Services allowed for this position:
  • Psychosocial Rehabilitation – Individual H2017, Group H2017 TJ
  • Crisis Intervention – Basic (Attendant) H2011, Intermediate (Bachelor) H2011 HK
  • Attendant Care – T1019 HE
Credential and Experience Requirements
  • Applicants must be at least 18 years old and have a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience in lieu of or in addition to education may be considered.
  • Additionally, the provider must be at least three years older than a consumer under the age of 18.
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Certification in the State of Kansas to provide this service is required.
  • Annual training may also be required.
  • Experience working with emotionally disturbed children
Requirements Required Skills/Abilities
  • Obtain Certification for Management of Aggressive Behavior (MOAB) training. MOAB is an in-depth training program that teaches individuals how to recognize, reduce, and manage violent and aggressive behavior. Training is provided.
  • MOAB training requires controlled movements, body positioning, and the ability to perform physical holds and restraint techniques.
  • The focus of MOAB training is to use techniques that can be effectively applied by employees of varying physical capabilities while minimizing potential harm to both the individual being restrained and the trained themselves.
Physical Requirements
  • Be able to get on the floor rise without assistance
  • Prolonged periods of standing and walking
