Short-Term Worker - Forestry

Summer is almost here and the City of Bozeman is looking to hire three Short-Term Workers to assist our Forestry Division with planting, maintenance, pruning, removals, watering, and equipment operation.

The ideal start date for this position will be early May, with the assignment ending in September, depending on availability. The schedule for this position is 40 hours/week, Monday-Friday 8:00am – 4:00pm.

Fair Labor Standards Act Status: Non-Exempt

Length of Season: Ideally late April or early May through - August or September, 2026.

Assignment Details: Not to exceed 90 working days or 520 hours, whichever comes first.

• Assists Forestry crew in maintaining urban forest trees, including pruning and removals, insect and disease diagnosis.
• Plants and transplants trees, including installation of bare root, balled and burlap, and containerized trees according to City ordinance.
• Weeds, mulches, and fertilizes urban trees during planting process.
• Waters urban trees for new tree establishment.
• Utilizes City of Bozeman vehicles, including water truck, truck and trailer, and other Forestry equipment.
• Participates in other forestry functions, including maintenance of equipment, sidewalk and site triangle trimming, stump grinding, and other related duties.
• Operates a variety of hand and power tools and equipment related to work assignments as instructed.
• Responds to citizens’ questions and comments in a courteous and timely manner.
• Communicates and coordinates regularly with appropriate others to maximize the effectiveness and efficiency of interdepartmental operations and activities.
• Performs other directly related duties as assigned.

• High School Diploma or GED by employment start date.
• This position requires operation of a company vehicle; candidates must be 18 years of age or older and meet all company driving eligibility requirements.
• Must possess a valid Class D driver’s license.
• Some related forestry or landscaping experience is preferred, but not required.
• Offers for employment are conditional upon satisfactory responses to appropriate post conditional offer process.
