Summary:

The Roadway Worker in Charge (RWIC) is responsible for providing on-site roadway worker protection and safety oversight for contractors working within the right-of-way of client railroads. This position involves coordinating with dispatchers, managing on-track safety, and ensuring strict compliance with Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) and client-specific regulations. Candidates must be willing and able to travel as needed based on project assignments.

Certification will be provided by the company as required.

Preferred Experience s:

• Knowledge of FRA regulations, GCOR, and railroad operating practices.
• Strong communication, leadership, and situational awareness skills.
• Ability to make timely and sound decisions in safety-critical situations.
• Previous railroad, flagging, or roadway worker protection experience is required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• On-Track Protection: Establish and maintain proper on-track protection to ensure the safety of all personnel against all on-track movements on client railroad property.
• Jobsite Coordination: Act as the primary point of contact for contractors, dispatchers, and train crews to maintain safe and efficient operations.
• Safety Briefings: Conduct daily job briefings to communicate track protection procedures, identified hazards and their mitigation, required personal protective equipment (PPE), and all applicable safety requirements to personnel on site.
• Compliance: Enforce FRA and client-specific rules and procedures at all times.
• Reporting: Complete required electronic and written reports, including project setup forms, daily work reports, project documentation, and flagging records.
• Equipment Handling: Place and remove track protection equipment such as signs, derails, and flags, with weights ranging from 15 to 90 pounds.
• Communication: Maintain clear, professional communication with supervisors, managers, dispatchers, and contractors regarding assignments, schedules, and field conditions.
• Training:
  • Successfully complete mandatory company and client specific trainings
  • Participate in successfully complete annual recertification and qualification programs to maintain RWIC certifications

Working Conditions:

• Field-based position with exposure to live railroad operations and outdoor environments.
• Extended hours, weekends, holidays, and travel may be required based on project assignments.
