Our client is seeking a Accounting Manager to support the financial performance of a growing construction organization. This leadership role is responsible for overseeing job costing, project financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and Work-in-Progress (WIP) analysis while partnering closely with operations and project management teams. The ideal candidate will bring strong construction accounting experience, exceptional analytical skills, and a collaborative leadership style.

OVERVIEW OF THE ACCOUNTING MANAGER ROLE:

Oversee project budgets, commitments, forecasts, and actual costs across multiple construction projects.
Monitor job cost performance and partner with Project Managers and field leadership to investigate and resolve variances.
Support the month-end close process, including journal entries, reconciliations, and cost adjustments.
Prepare and maintain Work-in-Progress (WIP) schedules and project profitability reporting.
Ensure accurate job costing in accordance with GAAP and company policies.
Assist with monthly financial forecasts and project performance reporting.
Participate in the annual budgeting process and ongoing financial planning.
Prepare financial reports for leadership, highlighting project performance, trends, risks, and opportunities.
Analyze project financial data to support strategic business decisions.
Develop and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls related to project accounting.
Ensure compliance with GAAP, company policies, and applicable regulatory requirements.
Support internal and external audits by providing financial documentation and analysis.
Assist with tax reporting requirements and ensure proper documentation for change orders, subcontract agreements, and project-related financial records.
Lead and mentor job cost and accounting team members.
Partner closely with Operations, Project Management, and Finance to improve project financial performance.
Identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes and improve reporting efficiency.
Support continuous improvement initiatives across accounting and project controls.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE ACCOUNTING MANAGER ROLE:

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with construction accounting experience strongly preferred.
Strong understanding of GAAP, job costing, project accounting, and Work-in-Progress (WIP) reporting.
Experience with project forecasting, budgeting, and financial analysis.
Experience with Viewpoint Vista or a similar construction ERP system is preferred.
Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, and financial data analysis.
Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across finance and operations.
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
High level of professionalism, integrity, and attention to detail.
