LHH is partnering with an established construction company that is seeking an experienced Business Unit Controller to oversee the financial operations of an entire division. This is a hands‑on leadership role responsible for managing all accounting functions, financial reporting, project accounting, and operational finance activities. The ideal candidate will bring deep construction industry experience, strong knowledge of Work‑in‑Progress (WIP) reporting, and a proven track record of leading accounting teams in a project‑based environment.
Key Responsibilities:- Oversee all day-to-day accounting and finance operations for a business division.
- Manage month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting.
- Prepare and analyze financial statements, budgets, forecasts, and variance analyses.
- Lead and manage construction project accounting activities, including job costing, revenue recognition, and project profitability analysis.
- Maintain and oversee Work‑in‑Progress (WIP) schedules and reporting.
- Partner with operations and project management teams to monitor project performance and financial results.
- Oversee all accounts receivable and billing functions, ensuring timely collections and cash flow management.
- Manage accounts payable processes and vendor relationships.
- Direct payroll administration, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
- Develop, enhance, and maintain internal controls, accounting policies, and financial procedures.
- Support annual audits, tax requirements, and regulatory compliance.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and operational efficiencies.
- Supervise, mentor, and develop accounting staff.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of Controller experience within the construction industry.
- Strong expertise in Work‑in‑Progress (WIP) reporting and analysis.
- Extensive experience with project accounting and construction job costing.
- Thorough understanding of percentage‑of‑completion accounting and construction financial reporting.
- Experience managing payroll, accounts receivable, and accounts payable functions.
- Demonstrated experience leading accounting teams and supporting operational leadership.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem‑solving skills.
- Excellent communication and leadership abilities.
- Advanced proficiency with ERP/accounting systems and Microsoft Excel.
- CPA designation preferred but not required.
$150,000-$175,000
