Aerotek Asphalt Rakers
Aerotek is hiring Asphalt Rakers to support paving crews on commercial, residential, municipal, and highway projects throughout the Pittsburgh area. Candidates will assist with asphalt placement, grading, surface finishing, traffic control, site cleanup, and general labor duties while working alongside paving equipment and heavy machinery. This is a physically demanding outdoor position requiring frequent lifting, bending, kneeling, and extended periods on your feet.
Typical schedules are Monday-Friday, 10-12 hour shifts, with occasional Saturdays, overtime, and night work during peak season. This is a great opportunity for dependable individuals looking to build a long-term career in asphalt paving and heavy construction.
Responsibilities:
- Rake and level hot asphalt behind paving equipment
- Assist with grade, slope, and surface finishing
- Smooth joints and transitions for quality pavement installation
- Operate rakes, lutes, shovels, tampers, and other hand tools
- Support paving, milling, grading, and excavation crews
- Load and unload materials, equipment, and tools
- Assist with traffic control setup and work zone safety
- Monitor asphalt conditions and support paving operations
- Maintain clean and safe job sites
- Assist operators, drivers, and foremen as needed
Essential
Skills:
- Construction, asphalt, concrete, roadway, or outdoor labor experience preferred
- Asphalt raking and lute work experience preferred
- Understanding of paving operations, grade, and slope requirements
- Ability to safely use hand tools and perform physical labor
- Reliable attendance and strong work ethic
- Ability to lift 50+ lbs regularly
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
- Willingness to work overtime, nights, and weekends as needed
Additional Skills &
Qualifications:
- Previous asphalt paving experience
- Experience with asphalt rakes, lutes, and paving hand tools
- Heavy highway or PennDOT project experience
- OSHA 10 certification
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
- Comfortable walking on uneven terrain and freshly paved surfaces
- Ability to work 10-12 hour shifts
- Interest in advancing into Operator, Roller Operator, Screed Operator, or other paving careers

Work Environment:
Work on commercial paving, municipal roadwork, heavy highway, industrial, and site development projects. Pay and Benefits:
The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $26.00/hr eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
