The Department of Environmental Protection is seeking qualified candidates with experience in underground anthracite coal mining. Responsibilities- Conduct inspections to safeguard operations of Underground Anthracite Coal Mining, including mine inspections and rescue operations within the mining environment.
- Enter all information gathered during inspections into the Department's electronic data system for accurate reporting.
- Engage with the public and stakeholders in the mining sector to advocate for safety measures and adherence to established standards.
- Evaluate mining equipment during inspections to ensure compliance with prescribed safety regulations; inform mine officials and personnel of any hazardous conditions to facilitate necessary corrective measures.
- Full-time employment.
- Work hours:
6:00 AM to 2:30 PM, Monday through Friday, with a 30‑minute lunch break. - This position may require you to be on call 24/7.
- Multiple positions may be filled from this posting in the counties of Schuylkill, Carbon, Dauphin, Northumberland, Columbia, Lackawanna, and Luzerne.
- Salary:

- Minimum of ten years of experience in underground anthracite coal mines, with the most recent five years in Pennsylvania mines; high school graduation or equivalent experience and training.
- Practical experience with explosive gas or other dangerous gases found in coal mines.
- Possession of a valid Pennsylvania driver's license.
- Must meet Pennsylvania residency requirement.
- Must be able to perform essential job functions.

- Exam is based on Anthracite Coal Mine Act No. 346. Studying the Act is advantageous.
- You may retest one month after the date of your last exam; a new application must be submitted.
- Results will be provided via email.
- Only your most recent exam score is counted.
