Summary:

Point Park University seeks a dedicated, experienced educator to join its nationally recognized B.F.A. in Musical Theatre program. The ideal candidate will specialize in teaching courses like: musical theatre performance skills, acting through song and voice training, aligning with the program's "Acting First" philosophy that prioritizes strong acting foundations integrated with vocal excellence and professional readiness. This role contributes to preparing versatile, career-ready performers through classroom instruction, mentoring, and production involvement.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Teach core and advanced courses, including the "Acting Through Song" sequence (IIV), musical theatre labs/workshops, musical theatre techniques, and related performance skills classes.
  • Provide private voice lessons and/or group voice instruction, focusing on vocal technique, healthy singing, repertoire development, and musical interpretation for musical theatre performers.
  • Mentor students in building audition materials, developing personal artistry, and navigating professional career paths.
  • Collaborate on curriculum development, recruitment (including audition panels), and student advising.
  • Participate in the production season as appropriate (e.g., vocal coaching or directing musical theatre productions).
  • Engage in ongoing professional creative/scholarly activity (performance, direction coaching, or research) to remain current in the field.
  • Contribute to department and university service, including committee work and initiatives supporting diversity, equity, inclusion, accessibility and belonging.

Required Qualifications:

  • Terminal degree (M.F.A., M.F.A. in progress or equivalent) in Musical Theatre, Theatre Performance, Vocal Performance/Pedagogy, or a closely related field.
  • Demonstrated expertise in acting, acting through song techniques, musical theatre repertoire, musical theatre performance and vocal pedagogy suitable for training pre-professional performers.
  • Professional experience as a performer, vocal coach, or director in musical theatre (Broadway, national tours, regional theatre, or equivalent).
  • College-level teaching experience (adjunct or full-time) with evidence of effective student mentoring.
  • Commitment to inclusive teaching practices and fostering a supportive, collaborative conservatory environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience coordinating or teaching private voice in a conservatory setting.
  • Familiarity with an "Acting First" approach or similar integrated training models for musical theatre.
  • Industry connections for guest artist invitations, showcase preparation, or career placement.
  • Record of creative/scholarly work in musical theatre.
