The successful candidate will demonstrate a student-centered approach, fostering a supportive and challenging learning environment while preparing actors for the demands of contemporary industry practices across stage and screen.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Teach or contribute to undergraduate and/or graduate courses in acting for the camera, acting technique, scene study, and related areas such as, audition techniques or professional preparation and on set "behind-the-scenes" practices and vocabulary.
  • Teach or contribute to courses in directing for the camera, with an emphasis on screenwriting. Possibly integrating technical elements of camera work (e.g., framing, lighting, editing basics, and on-set protocols).
  • Direct or supervise student productions, including potential on screen projects.
  • Mentor and advise students, supporting their artistic growth and professional development.
  • Maintain an active professional profile through creative practice, performance, directing, or scholarly research appropriate for tenure at a competitive national program.
  • Contribute to curriculum development, student recruitment, and program initiatives.
  • Participate in departmental service, including committee work and collaboration with faculty across acting, directing, design, and other areas.

Required Qualifications:

  • Terminal degree (PhD, M.F.A., M.F.A. in progress or equivalent) in Acting, Theatre, Film/TV Performance, or a closely related field (ABD considered if degree completion is imminent).
  • Professional experience as an actor and/or director in theatre, film, television, or related media, with demonstrated on-camera work or credits.
  • Proven college-level teaching experience in acting technique and acting/directing for the camera.
  • Knowledge of technical aspects of camera work and ability to integrate them into performance training.
  • Strong commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging, with experience fostering inclusive environments and working with diverse student populations.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with a demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with faculty colleagues and engage positively with students.
  • Evidence of ongoing professional engagement and potential for continued creative/scholarly contributions.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience directing for stage or screen.
  • Expertise in additional areas such as directing, screenwriting, playwrighting, emerging media performance.
  • Ability to coordinate curriculum with programs across disciplines in the School of Theatre, Film and Animation.
  • Union memberships (e.g., AEA, SAG-AFTRA) or equivalent professional affiliations.
  • Professional record of contributions to diversity, equity, and inclusion in the performing arts through teaching, creative work, or service.
