POSITION SUMMARY:

The Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry seeks a Lab Administrator tooversee daily instructional laboratory operations as well as assist in a widerange of responsibilities as described below. The Lab Administrator should have experience in wet-chemical techniques with the ability to prepare chemical reagents, knowledge of safe handling and disposal of common laboratory chemicals, and familiarity with equipment and instrumentation used routinely in undergraduate labs.

In addition, the candidate should be detail oriented with strong organizational skills and be able to communicate effectively with faculty, staff, students and the general public.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Teaching lab-related responsibilities
- Responsible for the preparation and setting up of chemicals and equipment for the 100- and
200-level lab courses during the fall, spring, and summer semesters. Courses include:
General chemistry I and II;
Organicchemistry I and II;
Fundamentals of chemistry I and II (GOB).

Maintains updatedand organized prep sheets.

Keeps teaching and prep lab spaces clean and organized.

Trains new TAsand instructors on teaching instrument usage.

Attends and assists lab TA meetings for courses that they have prepped and set up.

Aids the course

Coordinators with lab course development and optimization.

Helps proctor labpracticals;

Administers TAevaluations for 100- through 400-level lab courses.

Other Responsibilities
- Along with Stockroom Manager, interview, hire, schedule, train, supervise, and assess

Student Aides working the prep room and stockroom.

Encourages aculture of safety.

Manages safehandling and disposal of chemical waste generated in the research and teachinglaboratories

Assists in overseeing the annual lab cleanout.

Completes summerprojects as needed.

Serves as departmental

Fire Marshall.

Completes other duties as assigned by the department Chair.

REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum qualifications:

Bachelor's degree inchemistry or biochemistry or a bachelor's degree in a science related field from an accredited educational institution with at least 3 years comparable work experience.

Preferred qualifications:

Master's degree in chemistry or biochemistry from an accredited educational institution.

Alternately, the successful candidate may possess any equivalent combination of experience and training, which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the essential job functions. This includes, but is not limited to, the following:

Knowledgeable about chemistry and the preparation of solutions for undergraduate teaching lab courses.

Strong commitment to chemical safety, specifically with handling and disposal of chemical waste.

Demonstratedability to effectively supervise, train, and coordinate student employees in alaboratory setting.

Team oriented andwilling to work together with other staff members, faculty and students.

Ability toestablish and maintain effective working relationships with the University Community.
