Adjunct Faculty Instructor in Quantitative Reasoning
Carlow University's Department of Computational and Chemical Sciences invites applications for an adjunct faculty instructor in Quantitative Reasoning for the Fall 2026 semester. Qualified individuals must hold a master's degree, with a minimum of three years of experience in science or mathematics, to serve in this role. This is a part-time position located on our Pittsburgh campus. Course materials and mentoring will be provided.
Candidates must demonstrate and reflect understanding of and commitment to the mission and core values of the University and the Sisters of Mercy and experience working with diverse populations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Teach 1-2 sections of Quantitative Reasoning. This course is a required course for undergraduates that introduces quantitative reasoning skills to first year students. Sections will be taught face-to-face Tuesday and Thursday afternoons. Candidates must be available for on-campus teaching multiple days per week.
- Facilitate student learning, provide effective instruction, and perform evaluations of student learning for all assigned classes.
- Develop course lectures, assignments, and tests, following a standard course syllabus, in conjunction with the course coordinator.
- Be available to students via email and personal meetings. Preferred methods of communications and time of availability for office hours must be clearly stated in the course syllabus and adhered to throughout the semester.
- Assign grades and maintain student records in accordance with FERPA regulations.
- Meet all course responsibilities, including class meeting times and office hours, throughout the semester.
Requirements:
- Master's degree required
- 3 years of recent experience in science or mathematics.
