Job Description

Reports To: Assistant Superintendent

Terms of Employment: 260-day work year (MNAA Agreement)

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

Strategic and Cultural Leadership

  • Provide leadership in secondary English Language Arts, Social Studies, Library, Health, Art, and Physical Education programs, ensuring alignment with district vision, Pennsylvania Academic Standards, and district priorities.
  • Foster a culture of academic excellence, literacy, inquiry, creativity, wellness, and student engagement across all areas of humanities oversight.
  • Promote a positive, collaborative culture among staff, students, and families by modeling ethical, student-centered leadership.
  • Support the development and implementation of innovative instructional opportunities and programming that enhance student learning and engagement in the humanities.
  • Coordinate and support visual and performing arts programming, events, and related operational needs in collaboration with school administration and staff.
  • Supervise curriculum, instruction, and assessment for secondary English Language Arts, Social Studies, Library, Health, Art, and Physical Education programs.
  • Coordinate assessment practices and ensure compliance with district, state, and federal guidelines as they relate to areas of supervision.
  • Manage and support instructional programs through scheduling, resource allocation, curriculum review, and observation cycles.
  • Oversee the implementation of district initiatives within areas of humanities oversight, including curriculum revisions, instructional shifts, interdisciplinary learning opportunities, and literacy-focused instructional practices.
  • Maintain aligned curriculum in areas of responsibility in accordance with district expectations and regional, state, and national standards.
  • Collaborate with district administration and staff to support intervention and enrichment services related to Multi‑Tiered System of Supports (MTSS), Child Study Team (CST) processes, and other regular education support programming.
  • Manage and make recommendations for budget items related to areas of oversight.
  • Lead and maintain the district’s new teacher orientation and induction programming.

Leadership for Learning / Student Achievement

  • Support teachers in developing and implementing high‑quality instructional practices in secondary English Language Arts, Social Studies, Library, Health, Art, and Physical Education programs.
  • Conduct formal and informal classroom observations, providing actionable feedback to improve teaching and learning.
  • Design and facilitate professional development aligned with district goals, instructional best practices, and content‑specific needs across humanities disciplines.
  • Lead curriculum development, review, and adoption processes, ensuring vertical and horizontal alignment across grade levels and courses.
  • Use multiple sources of data to evaluate program effectiveness, inform instructional decisions, and support continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with building principals, counselors, and intervention staff to support high‑quality intervention programming and student achievement in related areas of oversight.
  • Support the implementation of disciplinary literacy practices, writing across content areas, inquiry‑based learning, discussion protocols, and performance‑based learning experiences across humanities programs.
  • Demonstrate, model, and support staff in the development and implementation of best instructional practices.
  • Support teachers individually and in teams for the purpose of strengthening their understanding and application of curriculum, instructional strategies, assessment practices, and instructional materials.

Professional and Community Leadership

  • Collaborate with principals, supervisors, and district leaders to improve instruction, programming, and student outcomes.
  • Communicate effectively with faculty, families, and community stakeholders regarding instructional programs, curriculum, resources, and student needs.
