Job Description

This position is responsible for effective reinforcement of classroom instruction by providing instructional support and monitoring student progress in accordance with the PSTC Director directives. Maintenance of the training facility/storage trailers and preparing the grounds for fire, rescue, hazmat or other exercises are the critical daily functions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain training facilities and storage trailers for technical skills exercises.
  • Provide for the general cleanliness and security of the training equipment and work area.
  • Ensure a safe environment for the conduct of technical skills training.
  • Prepare training grounds, fire, rescue, hazmat, rescue equipment, and training props for daily use based on the weekly technical skills course scheduled.
  • Test and conduct equipment checks of associated training equipment.
  • Provide technical assistance to instructor staff concerning skills preparations and procedures, including preparing props for courses.
  • Maintain records of activities undertaken in the support of the courses which may include data entry and retaining information regarding training preparation and associated equipment and condition.
  • Ensure compliance with associated NFPA (National Fire Protection Association) standards.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Assist teachers with completing paperwork.
  • Maintain up-to-date with professional credentials, best practices, and current disciplines including continued educational requirements through certifications, seminars, training programs, etc.
  • Maintain and develop work-related knowledge, skills, and competencies related to the job through professional and cross-training opportunities.
  • Attend all required meetings and training.
  • Perform additional grade-level support duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Proficient verbal and written communication skills.
  • Read, comprehend and follow instructions/work orders.
  • Ability to consistently provide excellent customer service.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work assignments, including managing multiple projects/tasks concurrently and meet varied deadlines.
  • Identify problems and assist with problem solving.
  • Knowledge of general firefighting and rescue equipment.
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Three to five years of related fire experience.
  • Prior work performance must have met or exceeded appropriate work standards.

  • PA Child History clearance
  • PA Criminal Record Check clearance
  • FBI Federal Criminal History Record clearance
Physical Demands
  • Ability to stand & walk, carry, push, pull, sit, crawl & stoop, repeatedly kneel, bend and balance.
  • Ability to use both hands & both legs; use legs/arms to climb; repetitive twisting or pressure involving wrists or hands.
  • Reaching at high or low level; ability to pull hand over hand; ability for rapid mental/muscular coordination simultaneously.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
Audible Demands
  • Ability to communicate orally and hear conversation.
Visual Demands
  • Use of computer and internet/internet-based systems.
  • Reading and preparing documents, reports, etc.
  • Use of depth perception and color vision.
Environmental Demands
  • Work is primarily conducted in indoor and outdoor environments with varying lighting, noises, and temperatures.
  • Work with machinery with moving parts; with ladders/scaffolding when necessary.
  • Exposure to dust, chemicals, greases/oils, machinery lubricants, etc.
Hazards
  • Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) including steel-toed boots, metatarsal protector, gloves, masks, eye and hearing protection, respirator, etc. are required to be worn to prevent risk of injury or work-related illnesses.
Salary

$12.97 per hour.

Schedule

Monday – Part time hours vary 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. based on class schedules, Tuesday – Part time hours vary 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. based on class schedules, Wednesday – Part time hours vary 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. based on class schedules, Thursday – Part time hours vary 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. based on class schedules, Friday – Part time hours vary 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. based on class schedules, Saturday – Part time hours vary 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. based on class schedules.
