Primary Function: To provide high-quality music instruction that develops students' musical knowledge, skills, creativity, self-expression, collaboration, and lifelong appreciation of music while supporting their academic, social, and emotional growth.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plans, prepares, and delivers standards-aligned elementary music instruction in accordance with the district's approved curriculum, instructional goals, policies, and procedures.
  • Provides developmentally appropriate instruction in singing, movement, listening, music literacy, instrumental performance, improvising, composing, responding, and connecting music to other disciplines and experiences.
  • Uses a variety of research-based instructional strategies, technologies, instruments, repertoire, materials, and assessments to engage students and support musical growth.
  • Differentiates instruction and implements required accommodations, modifications, and supports for students with IEPs, 504 Plans, English language development needs, and other identified learning needs.
  • Selects age-appropriate repertoire and learning experiences that represent diverse cultures, traditions, identities, perspectives, historical periods, and musical styles.
  • Creates and maintains a safe, inclusive, nurturing, collaborative, and engaging learning environment appropriate to students' ages, interests, abilities, and needs.
  • Establishes and consistently reinforces expectations and procedures for student behavior, participation, movement, transitions, and the safe use of instruments and equipment.
  • Assesses and monitors student learning through performance-based assessments, observations, student work, and other measures; uses results to inform instruction and reports student progress in accordance with district procedures.
  • Maintains complete, accurate, and timely records of student attendance, participation, progress, assessment results, and other required information.
  • Communicates and collaborates effectively with students, families, colleagues, administrators, supervisors, and support staff to address student needs and support school and district goals.
  • Collaborates with elementary and secondary music educators to support curriculum implementation, vertical alignment, equitable student experiences, and transitions into secondary music programs.
  • Plans, rehearses, and directs student concerts, assemblies, showcases, and other performances, including events outside the regular school day as required.
  • Coordinates performance-related communication and logistics, including schedules, programs, equipment, staging, student participation, and collaboration with families and staff.
  • Teaches and demonstrates the safe and appropriate use of instruments, equipment, technologies, and materials while maintaining organized classroom, storage, rehearsal, and performance spaces.
  • Maintains an inventory of instruments, equipment, music, and supplies; identifies repair, maintenance, replacement, and purchasing needs; and uses district resources responsibly.
  • Participates in curriculum development, program evaluation, professional learning communities, faculty and department meetings, committee work, and other required school or district activities.
  • Engages in ongoing professional growth, reflects on instructional practice, and models practices consistent with the district's adopted Framework for Teaching and supervision model.
  • Complies with applicable laws, district policies, student plans, confidentiality requirements, safety procedures, mandated reporting responsibilities, and rules governing student conduct.
  • Supervises students and, when assigned, provides direction to paraprofessionals, student teachers, accompanists, volunteers, or other support personnel.
  • Performs other related duties consistent with the scope of the position and as assigned by the appropriate administrator.

Minimum Qualifications:

Valid Pennsylvania Music Certification

Possesses knowledge of current instructional practices and assessment; excellent communication and human relation skills; strong organizational skills; possesses a multi-disciplinary perspective, and has a background in technology use preferred.
