Substitute Teacher

Winchester Thurston School, a Junior Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 12 independent school in Pittsburgh, has ongoing openings for day-to-day Substitute Teachers who can provide as-needed support primarily in Lower and Middle School. The Substitute Teacher will implement and teach lesson plans and manage duties in Lower or Middle School classrooms, as needed. Individuals in this position must understand and respond to the unique needs of students, fostering in each student a sense of confidence, ethics, responsibility, and respect for others.

The Substitute Teacher will work closely with the Directors and Associate Directors of Lower and/or Middle School, colleagues, students, and parents. The Substitute Teacher is responsible for the following duties and responsibilities:
Provide instruction, follow lesson plans and/or support classrooms/students for multiple grade levels and multiple subjects, as needed Leave notes for the regular teacher at the end of the teaching day Take initiative to perform duties and complete tasks that support classroom teachers Work as a team member with teaching colleagues and administrators Maintain an appropriate classroom environment and help enforce school expectations Fulfill additional duties, including but not limited to, taking attendance, managing lunch and recess duties, chaperoning field trips, and other assignments Perform other duties as assigned Qualifications Bachelor's degree in education or subject-related discipline Teaching experience Strong communication skills for communicating and collaborating with students and colleagues Understanding of the emotional and educational needs of children Demonstrated ability to meet the needs of a diverse student population Demonstrated ability to utilize educational technology in the classroom
