Military DoD Skill Bridge Program

The Military DoD Skill Bridge program is an opportunity for Service members to gain valuable civilian work experience through specific industry training, apprenticeships, or internships during the last 180 days of service. Skill Bridge connects Service members with industry partners in real-world job experiences under Dept. of Defense Instruction 1322.29. Separating Service members can be granted up to 180 days of permissive duty to focus solely on training full-time with approved industry partners after unit commander provides written authorization and approval.

GE Aerospace as a Skill Bridge partner offers real-world training and work experience in in-demand fields of work while having the opportunity to evaluate the Service member's suitability for the work. Military DoD Skill Bridge participants are not eligible for compensation from GE Aerospace, as they continue to receive military compensation and benefits as active-duty service members.

On Wing Support Test Technician

The On Wing Support Test Technician will be responsible for performing shipping & receiving, prepping, de-prepping, inspection, and testing of aircraft engines in accordance with Standard Work and all applicable technical references. GE Aerospace's On Wing Support test facility in Pittsburgh, PA is a full-service provider with the regulatory certification and OEM engineering support to test GE / CFM commercial engines.

Military backgrounds in aviation propulsion, aircraft maintenance, powerplant systems, or flightline support align with this role, particularly those with experience in engine removal and installation and test operations.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Perform all aspects of the engine testing, maintenance, inspection, and troubleshooting procedures in accordance with Standard Work, appropriate technical references, Repair Station Manuals, and GE policies and procedures.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams including EHS, quality, engineering, planning, and materials to support operational initiatives, achieve strategic business objectives, and support constant improvement site-wide.
  • Understand and strictly adhere to appropriate technical references such as Aircraft Maintenance Manuals, Engine Shop Manuals, Engine Illustrated Parts Catalogs, etc.
  • Act in accordance with GE's FLIGHT DECK fundamentals & behaviors, the site's Repair Station and Quality Control Manual, Training Manual, Test Cell Facility Operations Manual, and other applicable regulatory agency requirements.
  • Document all work performed and book time using the site's ERP software.
  • Perform supplementary shop and housekeeping duties as a part of the site's 5S and Total Proactive Maintenance initiatives.
  • Ability to use mechanical ingenuity and make decisions in a fast-paced production environment in a safe, effective and efficient manner.
  • Availability to work flexible shift patterns as required including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to travel to remote international locations for initial training for an extended period of time.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Active Military Personnel on their last 180 days of service
  • High School Diploma / GED
  • 1+ years of mechanical experience
  • Federal Aviation Administration Powerplant Mechanic certification

  • Proven leadership experience leading initiatives of moderate scope and impact
  • Background in or familiarity with SAP, Oasis, or a similar ERP software
  • Knowledge of borescope inspection
  • Preliminary Review approved

  • Equipment operations, i.e., fork truck, overhead crane, transporter & tug.
