Amentum's Environmental Remediation Services (ERS) Group is seeking a motivated and technically proficient Environmental Scientist (Geologist / Engineer) with 2-4 years of experience to join our growing team in Pittsburgh, PA. In this role, the successful candidate will assist in delivering environmental solutions for both private and government sector clients, particularly on hazardous waste sites. Amentum employs advanced engineering and technology solutions to the most significant challenges to make the world safer, more secure, and cleaner by eliminating environmental hazards to create a secure and vibrant future.
Successful candidates must be willing and able to regularly travel to project sites to conduct field investigations, implement site remediation programs addressing soil, groundwater, and vapor issues, manage vendors and subcontractors, and collaborate with project stakeholders. You will be part of an integrated mission-driven team dedicated to protecting human health and the environment, eliminating environmental hazards, ensuring regulatory compliance, and making positive contributions to the communities we work in.

Amentum's environmental consulting and engineering groups provide solutions for complex site investigations, remediation design, regulatory compliance, and environmental engineering. Our headquarters are in Chantilly, VA.
Key Responsibilities:
- Actively participate in environmental remediation projects, including planning, coordination, sampling, execution, safety lead duties for field activities, data analysis, and technical reporting phases.
- Conduct comprehensive field investigations utilizing standard field practices and equipment for the collection of samples, including soil, groundwater, soil vapor, surface water, sediment, and potable water.
- Lead subsurface drilling programs (conventional and direct push), perform soil logging, soil and rock classification, prepare boring logs and well construction logs. Familiarity with various drilling and sampling techniques is preferred.
- Apply a foundation in natural sciences (chemistry, physics, biology, geology-hydrogeology, and mathematics) along with engineering principles to explain environmental observations and develop effective solutions to complex environmental issues and problems.
- Assist with environmental remediation system installation, operation and maintenance.
- Ensure environmental compliance by reviewing environmental regulations and supporting environmental permitting and other compliance needs.
- Gather, interpret, and organize diverse environmental data sets using spreadsheets, graphs, or models.
- Oversee and effectively manage subcontractors, assuring strict adherence to work scopes, project specifications, and rigorous safety requirements.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in geology, engineering, or related.
- Valid driver license is required.
- Experience (2-4 years) in the environmental field, environmental engineering, or geology/hydrogeology, ideally with environmental remediation experience.
- Knowledge of EPA and state remediation regulations (CERCLA, RCRA), experience with Pennsylvania's Land Recycling Program (Act
2), Storage Tank Program, or Hazardous Sites Cleanup Act (HSCA) is beneficial. - Proficient written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to distill technical information clearly to diverse audiences within a multidisciplinary team.
- Desire and ability to deliver quality work and solve problems with critical thinking and sound judgment.
- Driven to take ownership of projects, prioritize tasks effectively, and thrive in a collaborative, team environment that fosters personal and professional growth.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen and work in Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) clothing, including a respirator.
- Amentum will provide 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER or refresher training if the selected candidate does not already possess this certification.
Compensation & Benefits:
HIRING SALARY RANGE: $60,000 - $95,000 (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant internal equity, and alignment with market data.)
