Industrial Scientific's product development team includes skilled engineers, designers and technicians in the disciplines of electrical, mechanical, and firmware engineering. Third-party design partners are used (both locally and abroad) to augment our in-house team or to provide specific expertise. For the most part, we build what we design - often in our modern manufacturing factory right here in Western Pennsylvania.
We design and develop a wide variety of world-class gas detection instruments, sensors, accessories and infrastructure for worker connectivity and remote management. Our designs include the latest mixed-signal embedded computing technology, mechanical packaging, miniaturization, and compelling user-interfaces. We partner with a dedicated, in-house application software team providing feature-rich web-based applications that help our customers keep their workers safe.
An Electrical Engineer is a skilled engineering professional who designs large-scale electrical engineering projects. This person will often serve as the Lead Electrical Engineer in the ISC Stage-Gate Product Development Process.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
This position is responsible for the detailed electrical design throughout the Product Development life-cycle. This position may occasionally be involved in Enhancement & Sustaining projects for ISC legacy products. This position is expected to work closely with various cross-functional groups to fully assure a properly designed product from concept to production.
The duties may include, but are not limited to:
+ Designing analog and digital hardware to receive agency approvals (UL, CSA, ATEX, IEC, MSHA, etc.)
+ Define and execute system level specifications and requirements
+ Establishing strategic direction of electrical designs
+ Developing technical design documentation
+ Troubleshooting of new and legacy designs
+ Follow, enforce and mature the corporate engineering processes
+ Develop and present materials for design reviews and champion design for manufacturability, reliability and serviceability
+ Designing legacy product upgrades
+ Training in the technical use and servicing of new designs
+ Collaborative participation in cross-functional product development teams
+ Act as central liaison with quality assurance during product testing
Required Qualifications:
+ Minimum BSEE from an accredited engineering college or university
+ Minimum 3+ years experience in circuit design field
+ Proven success with low level analog circuit design
+ Proven success with digital hardware design with micro-controllers
+ Ability to develop schematics and layout in Altium
+ Demonstrated analytical skills
+ Self-starter with the ability to work as part of a team while also meeting individual responsibilities
Preferred Qualifications:
+ 5+ years experience in circuit design field
+ Intrinsic safety design
+ RF design and/or wireless technology integration
+ Battery technologies
+ Embedded programming
+ Spice circuit simulation and signal integrity
+ Demonstrated understanding of safety-critical embedded system design
+ Project management
Soft Skills:
+ Able to work effectively in a formal product development team environment
+ Able to exercise independent, sound judgment and decision making
+ Able to commit to and work under deadlines
+ Demonstrated understanding of Stage-Gate development process
+ Effective written and verbal communication skills
+ Manage third party on and off-shore development teams when needed
