This role plays a key part in supporting a large gas utility in Pennsylvania and offers long-term, stable work with a focus on environmental protection and regulatory compliance.

+ Verify compliance with NPDES permits, local ordinances, and Pennsylvania environmental regulations, including Chapter 102 requirements.

+ Prepare detailed inspection reports that clearly document site conditions, including written findings, photographs, and records of any compliance violations.

+ Maintain accurate and organized records of inspections, violations, corrective actions, and follow-up activities.

+ Provide clear guidance and recommendations to contractors regarding best management practices to prevent pollution, erosion, and sediment discharge.

+ Communicate inspection findings and compliance issues to appropriate regulatory bodies, such as the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection and county conservation districts.

+ Read and interpret blueprints and construction plans to understand site design, erosion and sediment control layouts, and potential environmental impacts.

+ Operate field equipment and use mobile technology to perform data entry, upload inspection data, and manage documentation in the field and office.

+ Perform water sampling and related environmental field activities as needed to support compliance and monitoring efforts.

+ Safely maneuver through rugged construction terrain in varied and sometimes challenging weather conditions while conducting field inspections.

+ Collaborate with project teams and contractors to support continuous improvement in erosion and sediment control practices and overall environmental compliance.

Essential Skills

+ Minimum of 2+ years of environmental inspection experience, preferably on construction sites or similar field environments.

+ Hands-on experience with erosion and sediment control measures, including installation, inspection, and evaluation of control techniques.

+ Qualified Visual Site Inspector certification (must have).

+ Strong understanding of Pennsylvania Chapter 102 Regulations and erosion control techniques.

+ Ability to read and interpret blueprints and construction drawings.

+ Proficiency in operating field equipment and using mobile technology for data entry and report submission.

+ Capability to conduct water sampling and related environmental field tasks.

+ Reliable transportation to travel regularly to various construction sites.

+ Ability to safely maneuver in rugged construction terrain and work in varied weather conditions.

+ Solid knowledge of environmental science principles related to erosion, sediment control, and water quality.

+ Experience supporting utility or infrastructure projects in a field-based inspection capacity.

+ Strong attention to detail and ability to produce clear, accurate, and well-organized inspection reports.

+ Effective communication skills for providing guidance to contractors and coordinating with regulatory agencies.

+ Comfort working with digital tools and mobile applications to upload data and manage inspection records.

+ Interest in long-term project work with consistent field activity and regulatory compliance responsibilities.

Work Environment

This role is primarily field-based, with approximately 65%-75% of the time spent visiting and inspecting active construction sites for a large gas utility in Pennsylvania. The position requires regular travel to various project locations, working outdoors in rugged construction terrain and in varied weather conditions. When not in the field, the Environmental Inspector works in an office environment to upload data, complete reports, and manage documentation using mobile technology and standard office systems.
