The Lead Electrical Hardware Engineer - Avionics for Voyager Lunar Systems is responsible for functional management of the Avionics team that design, manufacture and test our in-house avionics hardware across all company product lines.

In this role, the essential functions are:

  • Leading the development of flight hardware avionics, including computing, signal conditioning, control electronics, filtering, data acquisition, and command & data handling (C&DH)
  • Lead daily operations, scheduling, and tasking for the avionics team
  • Providing technical and programmatic guidance to internal avionics team members (employees, subcontractors, consultants) and partner support personnel
  • Establish review process for avionics engineering products prior to release and manufacturing
  • Provide subject matter expertise in subsystem and vehicle phase-gate, milestone design reviews as independent reviewer
  • Define internal work processes and standards for hardware design, circuit analysis, test execution, and result documentation.
  • Drive rapid troubleshooting, failure investigation, and resolution of electrical anomalies during component testing, vehicle assembly, and environmental testing
  • Contribute to avionics product roadmap and R&D prioritization

Minimum qualifications:

  • Experience in component/LRU electrical design
  • 6+ years of experience in electronics hardware development
  • B.S. in Electrical or Computer Engineering or equivalent work experience
  • Schematic and board design proficiency using software like Altium, Eagle, OrCAD, or similar
  • Ability to mentor and lead small teams of engineers to design complex products

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience in developing spacecraft electronics systems for a Class D unmanned spacecraft or similar
  • Experience in high-speed digital printed circuit board design
  • Experience implementing VITA VPX or SpaceVPX standards (VITA 46.0, VITA 65.0, VITA 78.0)
  • Microsoft Project/JIRA or similar task management and scheduling tools
  • Knowledge of Range Safety and Ground Safety electronics compliance
  • Capable of utilizing mechanical computer aided design (CAD) tools to develop avionics systems
  • Capable of programming FPGAs, microcontrollers, computer processors, graphic processors, or similar
  • Knowledge of NASA-STD 4001 and NASA-STD 4003 or similar
  • Knowledge of space environmental tests
  • Experience with testing for MIL-STD 461 or similar
  • M.S. in Electrical or Computer Engineering

Travel, physical, and/or government mandated requirements:

  • To conform to U.S. Government export regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) (22 CFR Parts 120–130) and the Export Administration Regulations (EAR) (15 CFR Parts 730–774), applicants for this position must be a U.S. Person: a US Citizen, a lawful permanent resident of the U.S., or a protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. § 1324b(a)(3). Applicants must be eligible to obtain any required export authorizations from the U.S. Department of State or the U.S. Department of Commerce.

The good faith base salary range for this role is $140,000–$160,000 at the time of this posting. Where you fall within the range depends on your experience, skills, and location. This range reflects base salary only and does not include benefits or bonus/incentive. This range may be adjusted in the future.
