Mobile Broadcast Lead Engineer

Oxford Solutions is working with a client to hire a Mobile Broadcast Lead Engineer for a direct-hire opportunity supporting live productions throughout the U.S. This is a highly travel-intensive, field-based position requiring travel up 70% of the time annually.

This role is designed for an experienced broadcast engineer who can take technical ownership of a mobile production unit, lead engineering crews, troubleshoot complex broadcast systems, and serve as the primary technical contact during live events.

Responsibilities

  • Lead engineering and technical operations for assigned mobile broadcast units
  • Manage technical setup, testing, live production support, and post-event teardown
  • Serve as the primary on-site technical contact for clients and production teams
  • Diagnose and resolve broadcast, network, audio, video, and control-system issues during live events
  • Direct and support engineering crew members during production
  • Ensure mobile units and equipment are properly configured, maintained, and production-ready
  • Coordinate equipment, staffing, maintenance, and operational requirements with internal teams
  • Support mobile unit upgrades, repairs, system integration, and technology improvements
  • Oversee preventive maintenance, equipment inventory, and repair tracking
  • Complete post-event technical reports and required production documentation

Qualifications

  • Technical degree in Electronics, Engineering, Broadcast Technology, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience considered
  • 4-5+ years of progressive experience in remote broadcast engineering, including lead or Engineer in Charge-level responsibilities
  • Strong knowledge of mobile television production, live broadcast systems, and IP-based workflows
  • Hands-on experience troubleshooting broadcast video, audio, routing, intercom, production switching, and networked equipment
  • Solid networking knowledge, including TCP/IP, multicast, VLANs, QoS, and Layer 2/3 environments
  • Experience with broadcast control systems such as Magnum, VSM, Cerebrum, or TFC
  • Familiarity with EVS systems, Calrec audio consoles, and Grass Valley production switchers
  • Strong leadership, client-facing communication, and problem-solving skills in live production environments
  • Extensive travel required - approximately 65–70% annually
  • Valid U.S. Passport required
