BNY seeks a Vice President, Commercial Real Estate Review Appraiser to lead independent valuation reviews across complex CRE portfolios. You will assess appraisal quality, methodology, and regulatory compliance, provide defensible valuation opinions, and highlight collateral and market risks to credit and risk partners. The role partners closely with underwriting and portfolio teams, supports audits and regulatory exams, and enhances review frameworks.
Ideal candidates bring strong CRE appraisal/review experience, deep market insight, and the ability to influence decisions within a highly regulated global financial institution.
Responsibilities
- Lead independent commercial real estate appraisal reviews for diverse property types and complex credit exposures
- Evaluate appraisal assumptions, methodologies, and compliance with internal policies, regulations, and industry standards
- Provide credible valuation opinions and risk insights to credit, risk, and business partners
- Escalate valuation and collateral risk concerns, recommending mitigants or restructuring as needed
- Collaborate with underwriting, portfolio management, and risk teams on large or structured transactions
- Develop and refine appraisal review frameworks, controls, and documentation standards
- Mentor junior review staff and support training on CRE valuation and regulatory expectations
- Prepare clear written reviews, presentations, and reports for committees and senior management
- Support regulatory exams, internal audits, and model/valuation governance processes
- Monitor market trends, cap rates, and CRE sector risks across key geographies and asset classes
