UPMC is seeking a dedicated Histotechnician or Histotechnologist to join our dynamic Histology Lab team. This full-time position is perfect for someone passionate about contributing to life-changing medicine in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.

Position Details:

Shift: 1 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Location:

Clinical Lab Building in the Oakland section of Pittsburgh, near UPMC Presbyterian Hospital.

+ Applicants will be placed in the appropriate role (Histotechnician or Histotechnologist) and salary level based on experience and education.

+ The Histotechnologist role starts at $26.30 per hour.

_We're excited to offer sign-on bonuses for qualified Histo Techs who join our team:_

* _ $15,000 for those with 0-1 year of experience with a 2-year full-time commitment_

* _ $20,000 for those with 1+ years of experience with a 2-year full-time commitment_

_Plus, earn an additional $10,000 upon completion of your third year of employment._

_Sign-on bonuses are also available for part-time positions and will be prorated based on commitment._

Responsibilities:

+ Process and prepare surgical and autopsy tissue specimens for embedding, cutting, staining and cover slipping.

+ Embed and cut specialized tissue based on location including minute biopsy protocols.

+ Perform QC checks at each phase of processing/ staining.

+ Ensure all tissues are embedded and cut according to department specific protocols with proper orientation and complete sections including no folds, chatter, artifacts or floaters.

+ Accurately prepares slides for microtomy using the barcode label in order to maintain correct patient identification throughout the process.

+ Demonstrates progression of skills towards working independently in an advanced staining area.

+ Maintain instruments following quality control specifications and daily maintenance protocols.

+ Supports academic mission of department.

+ Perform ancillary or miscellaneous tasks such as filing, cleaning, and stocking supplies.

+ Demonstrate complete knowledge of CoPath related to Histology workflow.

Histotechnician:

+ Successful completion of a NAACLS accredited HT program within the last 5 years OR an Associate's degree or at least 60 semester hours of academic credit from a regionally accredited college/university with a combination of 12 semester hours of biology and chemistry.

+ 1 year of clinical histology laboratory experience post-training with certification OR 3 years experience working as Histology Lab Technician or equivalent title without certification.

Histotechnologist:

+ Successful completion of bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college/university with a combination of 30 semester hours of biology and chemistry.

+ One year of clinical histology laboratory experience post training if not a graduate of accredited training program required.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

+ Histology Technician HT (ASCP) certification preferred

+ Act 34
