PJM Interconnection is a regional transmission organization (RTO) that plays a vital role in the U.S. electric system. PJM ensures the reliability of the largest centrally dispatched control area in North America by coordinating the movement of electricity in all or parts of 13 states. PJM, acting neutrally and independently, operates the largest competitive wholesale electricity market in the world. PJM manages a sophisticated regional planning process for generation and transmission expansion to assure future electric.
The Platform and Client Operations team is responsible for managing and maintaining the core infrastructure that supports PJM’s enterprise operations. This includes administration of physical and virtual servers across AIX, Windows, and Linux platforms, as well as networked appliances and virtualization technologies that enable scalable, efficient resource utilization.
The department also oversees client computing environments, including laptops, desktops, and associated applications, ensuring performance, reliability, and user support. Key enterprise services under our purview include email systems, multifactor authentication, digital certificate management, and other foundational technologies critical to secure and seamless business operations.
The Linux Administrator Co-op will support core infrastructure initiatives across PJM’s hybrid environment, with a focus on learning and hands‑on experience. Key responsibilities include automating infrastructure tasks using Ansible, assisting with certificate lifecycle management, and contributing to server build automation processes. The role also offers exposure to Linux system administration, container platforms like Open Shift, and Microsoft technologies such as Active Directory and Azure, while working alongside experienced engineers in a collaborative, enterprise‑scale setting.
RequiredSkills
- Basic Linux system administration and command-line skills
- Exposure to Open Shift, Docker, or Kubernetes
- Familiarity with Ansible and scripting for automation
- Introductory experience with Active Directory, Power Shell, or Azure
- Interest in hybrid cloud environments and infrastructure as code
- Strong communication and willingness to learn in a team setting
- Interest in regulated environments
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines or Dev Ops workflows
- Exposure to monitoring tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, Nagios)
- Understanding of cybersecurity principles or identity management
- Experience with version control systems like Git
- Knowledge of ITIL or other service management frameworks
- Ability to document technical processes and contribute to knowledge bases
