Manufacturing Engineer Position Summary
The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for developing, improving, and sustaining manufacturing processes used in the production of fiberglass reinforced centrifugal pumps. This role focuses on driving process standardization, efficiency improvements, quality enhancements, and manufacturing modernization across both the Resin Transfer Molding (RTM) and Machine Shop operations.
The Manufacturing Engineer works closely with production technicians, supervisors, quality personnel, and engineering teams to optimise manufacturing methods, create and maintain work instructions, implement process improvements, and support new and existing CNC machining operations. The successful candidate will combine strong technical knowledge with a hands‑on approach to problem solving on the production floor.
Essential Responsibilities Manufacturing Process Improvement- Analyze and improve manufacturing processes to increase safety, quality, productivity, and throughput.
- Identify opportunities for waste reduction, cycle time improvement, and cost savings.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives using Lean Manufacturing and root cause analysis methodologies.
- Develop and implement standardized manufacturing processes throughout the facility.
- Support production teams in troubleshooting process and equipment‑related issues.
- Lead initiatives to improve process consistency and reduce variation throughout RTM and machining operations.
- Create, revise, and maintain manufacturing work instructions, process sheets, setup documentation, and visual standards.
- Develop standardized operating procedures for RTM and machining operations.
- Ensure manufacturing documentation reflects current best practices and production requirements.
- Develop process maps, control plans, setup instructions, and operating standards that define critical manufacturing requirements.
- Work directly with experienced technicians and operators to document manufacturing knowledge that has historically been transferred through informal training and on‑the‑job experience.
- Drive documentation modernization efforts in support of operational excellence.
- Support the production of fiberglass reinforced pump components through optimisation of RTM processes.
- Collaborate with technicians to improve molding processes, tooling utilisation, resin flow, cure cycles, and part quality.
- Investigate and resolve moulding defects and process variation.
- Assist with qualification and implementation of new tooling, materials, and manufacturing methods.
- Create, verify, and maintain CAM programs for CNC machining centers.
- Support setup, prove‑out, and validation of new CNC programs.
- Collaborate with machinists and technicians to troubleshoot machining issues and implement improvements.
- Manage programme revisions and maintain manufacturing configuration control.
- Support the continued implementation and utilisation of newly installed CNC equipment.
- Provide daily technical support to RTM and machining operations.
- Work directly with technicians and operators to resolve manufacturing challenges.
- Assist in introducing new products, tooling, fixtures, and manufacturing equipment.
- Participate in corrective and preventive action activities related to quality issues.
- Support capacity planning and production readiness activities.
- Ensure manufacturing processes comply with company safety requirements and quality standards.
- Participate in risk assessments and process reviews.
- Drive error‑proofing and process control initiatives to improve product consistency.
- Support internal and external audits as required.
- Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related field.
- 5+ years of manufacturing engineering experience in a production environment.
- Experience developing manufacturing processes and work instructions.
- Experience with CNC machining and CAM programming.
- Strong understanding of machining fundamentals, tooling, fixturing, and GD&T.
