Israel and Overseas Engagement Associate

The Israel and Overseas Engagement Associate plays a central role in the Israel and Overseas department, with responsibility for Partnership2

Gether (P2G), Israel Scholarships, community Israel engagement programming, and related initiatives. This position works closely with staff, volunteers, lay leaders, community partners, and international stakeholders to strengthen relationships, coordinate programs, manage committee processes, and support meaningful Israel and overseas engagement.

• Plan strategic direction for Partnership2
  
  Gether (P2G), a sister-city program connecting Pittsburgh, Karmiel/Misgav, Israel, and the Jewish community in Warsaw.
• Represent P2G and the Federation at community events and programs.
• Ensure P2G programming aligns with the Federation's vision, mission, and values, and work closely with staff, volunteers, and stakeholders to assess programs.
• Meet and engage regularly with P2G Pittsburgh steering committee chairs to ensure alignment, monitor progress, and discuss challenges.
• Recruit new volunteers to the partnership committee to create advocates for P2G in Pittsburgh and support a strong leadership pipeline.
• Maintain existing partnerships and cultivate new relationships with Jewish organizations to strengthen collaboration and ensure coordinated community programming.
• Manage the budget, allocations, and committee processes for P2G.
• Establish and maintain relationships with key P2G stakeholders in Pittsburgh, Israel, and Warsaw.
• Work with lay leadership, agency personnel, and the P2G Steering Committee to identify funding priorities and create new programs.
• Participate in the JFNA Israel and Overseas professionals' group and attend monthly meetings to learn from other professionals and develop a wider network.
• Create itineraries for visiting delegations, including P2G steering committees and other programs that include delegations.
• Lead planning efforts for community-wide Israel engagement programming, including Yom Ha'atzmaut (Israel Independence Day).
• Manage the committee for the Federation's Israel Scholarship program, including recruiting new members.
• Serve as Federation liaison for Diller Teen Fellows, a year-long leadership program for teens that includes a weeklong seminar in Pittsburgh and a trip to Israel.
• Update the scholarship portal as needed and track scholarship applications as they are received.
• Work closely with administrative support to ensure seamless coordination of programs and meetings.
• Share knowledge of the Israel program landscape, promote Israel Scholarship opportunities to local institutions and families, and manage the annual scholarship application process.
• Collaborate with the local Hillel to support the Birthright Onward Israel program, a multi-week internship and immersive experience in Israel for college students, including participant tracking, alumni engagement, and ongoing relationship management.
• Be an active partner in JFunds, the collaborative of organizations in the Pittsburgh Jewish community that provide financial assistance in various ways.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, such as education, Jewish nonprofit management, Jewish studies, Israeli studies, or a related area required; master's degree preferred.
• Minimum of 3–5 years of relevant experience working in Israel engagement, Jewish communal service, nonprofit programming, community engagement, or a similar field.
• Deep knowledge of and commitment to the Jewish community.
• Strong connection to, knowledge of, and familiarity with the land, people, and history of Israel, as well as trends in Israel education and engagement.
• Strong relationship-building skills, with a desire and willingness to conduct community outreach.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively with diverse populations, including international partners and individuals for whom English is a second language.
• Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects and deadlines.
• Experience developing and implementing new initiatives successfully.
• Ability to work alongside lay leaders, committee members, volunteers, agency partners, staff, and community stakeholders.
• Knowledge of Israel travel programs for teens and young adults.
• Familiarity with Partnership2
  
  Gether regions and existing P2G programs preferred.
• Hebrew language skills are a plus.
• Willingness to work some evenings and weekends.
• Willingness to travel overseas at least once every two years.

This position has a competitive hiring range of $52,000 to $65,000 a year, commensurate with experience.
