The Resource Intensive Care (RIC) Registered Nurse plays a vital role across the organization by providing expert clinical care and support wherever it is needed most. RIC RNs float throughout the hospital, bringing advanced intensive care skills to diverse units and high‑acuity patient populations while serving as a trusted clinical resource at the point of care. This position works 12‑hour rotating shifts, with coverage required on both days and nights.

Shift hours are 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m., with a rotating schedule that includes weekends and holidays. Days worked rotate based on departmental staffing needs.

In this highly autonomous role, the RIC RN partners with interdisciplinary teams to deliver safe, high‑quality, patient‑centered care for complex patients, respond confidently to rapidly changing clinical situations, and support best practices grounded in evidence‑based care and Relationship‑Based Care principles. RIC RNs mentor bedside nurses, model clinical excellence, and contribute to a collaborative, healthy work environment focused on exceptional patient outcomes.

This position is designed for experienced ICU nurses who thrive in dynamic environments. A minimum of one year of recent ICU experience is required to ensure readiness for independent practice across multiple care settings. Due to the advanced nature of this role, Graduate Nurses and nurses without prior ICU experience are not eligible.

Qualifications:

The individual must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and/or interact appropriately to the ages of the patients served by his/her assigned unit as specified below. They must also demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs and to provide the care needs as described in the department policy and procedures.

Minimum 2 years? experience. BSN preferred. Must obtain a Solid/Strong/Good or higher on a Professional Staff Nurse Performance Evaluation to be promoted to this level.
