Job Summary:

Geisinger offers a part‑time Nursing Assistant position with a minimum hiring rate of $16.25 per hour. Experienced candidates receive higher rates and up to $3 shift differentials for evening, night, and weekend shifts. Up to $40,000 in financial support is available to become a nurse.

Responsibilities

The ideal candidate is highly motivated, committed to delivering the highest quality care, and consistently demonstrates reliability, punctuality, excellent teamwork, and strong communication skills.

  • Perform a wide range of direct patient care activities and clerical duties in a timely manner to support the care team.
  • Provide care for patients within the specific age range of the assigned clinical area, following the nursing assistant scope of practice and multidisciplinary care plan.
  • Identify, observe, and document the physical needs of patients according to established standards.
  • Report any changes in patient condition to licensed personnel promptly.
  • Obtain and maintain specimen integrity in accordance with policy, procedure, and physician orders.
  • Assist patients with activities of daily living, including hygiene and linen changing.
  • Provide one‑to‑one patient safety watch as assigned, following established policies and procedures.
  • Process specimens accurately and transport them to the laboratory promptly.
  • Perform point‑of‑care patient testing and maintain testing instruments with quality control.
  • Assist in problem solving, troubleshooting, and implementing corrective measures for equipment and supplies.
  • Serve as a preceptor and mentor for new staff and students in a positive manner.
  • Complete clerical duties for admissions, transfers, discharges, and deaths per standards and facilitate patient throughput.
  • Transcribe and process orders, confirm tests, and coordinate transportation of patients to multiple tests.
  • Schedule tests, fax consults, and assist in ordering supplies and stationery items.
  • Communicate with food services to ensure appropriate patient diets.
  • Operate and troubleshoot clerical equipment, including computers, fax machines, and phones.
  • Assist with transportation of non‑controlled medications and blood products as needed, complying with organizational policies.
  • Maintain compliance with all job‑specific obligations, policies, and procedures.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED) – Required
  • Minimum of 1 year related work experience – Preferred
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification – American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Basic Life Support Certification – Default Issuing Body
  • Strong communication, computer literacy, interpersonal skills, and preceptor skills.
