Job Summary
The Orthopaedic team is looking for an advanced practitioner to join their team in Danville, Pennsylvania. You would have the opportunity to work with the Orthopaedic Trauma team at Geisinger Medical Center. In collaboration with the physician, you provide care to new or established patients, demonstrating autonomy through patient evaluation, assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and follow‑up care. You order testing as needed and remain proficient in interpreting results and prescribing appropriate medications and therapeutic regimens within the scope of practice of the physician assistant.
The role involves triage, telephone communication, and patient education in cooperation with nursing, staff physicians, and other department staff.
- Assess and establish a presumptive diagnosis and implement treatment plans for patients.
- Make accurate and complete entries into the electronic medical record; order and interpret diagnostic testing and consult as appropriate, and prescribe appropriate medical therapy utilizing evidence‑based practice.
- Prescribe, adjust, or discontinue medications or therapies as appropriate.
- Evaluate and report to the collaborating physician any circumstances or approaches to medical management or test results that present a significant risk to patient health or well‑being.
- Perform procedures within the scope of practice of the physician assistant license.
- Communicate with the collaborative physician, patient, PCP, and referring staff through telephone or other means of correspondence.
- Instill confidence in patients by acting as their advocate, providing safe, ethical care and health education in a language that they can understand.
- Interpret and follow policies and guidelines to define procedures and meet goals and deadlines.
