Overview
The Licensed Practical Nurse position at SCI Mercer offers the opportunity to support the health and well-being of individuals in a secure setting. You will apply your skills while working closely with a dedicated medical team, ensuring quality care and making a positive difference each day.
Responsibilities- Care Plan Support:
Implement assigned nursing care plans by checking vital signs, administering medications, and performing treatments. - Patient Observation:
Identify inmate needs through observations and report physical or emotional changes. - Emergency Response:
Provide first aid, CPR, or AED during emergencies. - Record Documentation:
Maintain electronic health records and prepare reports for inmate transfer or release. - Supply Management:
Sterilize instruments and maintain adequate stock of medical supplies. - Medical Assistance:
Assist with daily living activities, screenings, immunizations, and treatments.
- Full‑time employment, 40 hours per week
- The Department of Corrections operates three shifts covering 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
- 1st shift: 6:00 am to 2:30 pm
- 2nd shift: 2:00 pm to 10:30 pm
- 3rd shift: 10:00 pm to 6:30 am
- Work hours to be determined and will be discussed during the interview.
- Alternative work schedules may be available, depending on operational needs.
- Eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
- Telework:
You will not have the option to telework in this position. - Salary:
In some cases, the starting salary may be non‑negotiable.
- Active authorization to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse in Pennsylvania.
- Employees with an active temporary practice permit must obtain licensure within one year as defined by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing.
- PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
- Eligible if within 60 days of completing a licensed practical nursing program approved by the State Board of Nursing; proof of a current PA temporary practice permit or PA Licensed Practical Nurse license required at the time of appointment.
- Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
- Must be able to perform essential job functions.
- Must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
