Licensed Practical Nurse - SCI Mercer

Overview

The Licensed Practical Nurse position at SCI Mercer offers the opportunity to support the health and well-being of individuals in a secure setting. You will apply your skills while working closely with a dedicated medical team, ensuring quality care and making a positive difference each day.

• Care Plan Support:
  Implement assigned nursing care plans by checking vital signs, administering medications, and performing treatments.
• Patient Observation:
  Identify inmate needs through observations and report physical or emotional changes.
• Emergency Response:
  Provide first aid, CPR, or AED during emergencies.
• Record Documentation:
  Maintain electronic health records and prepare reports for inmate transfer or release.
• Supply Management:
  Sterilize instruments and maintain adequate stock of medical supplies.
• Medical Assistance:
  Assist with daily living activities, screenings, immunizations, and treatments.

• Full‑time employment, 40 hours per week
• The Department of Corrections operates three shifts covering 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
  • 1st shift: 6:00 am to 2:30 pm
  • 2nd shift: 2:00 pm to 10:30 pm
  • 3rd shift: 10:00 pm to 6:30 am
• Work hours to be determined and will be discussed during the interview.
• Alternative work schedules may be available, depending on operational needs.
• Eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
• Telework:
  You will not have the option to telework in this position.
• Salary:
  In some cases, the starting salary may be non‑negotiable.

• Active authorization to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse in Pennsylvania.
• Employees with an active temporary practice permit must obtain licensure within one year as defined by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing.
• PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
• Eligible if within 60 days of completing a licensed practical nursing program approved by the State Board of Nursing; proof of a current PA temporary practice permit or PA Licensed Practical Nurse license required at the time of appointment.
• Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
• Must be able to perform essential job functions.

• Must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
